Locanda Del Lago is the closest thing to an institution on 3rd St. Promenade, now entering their 22nd year at 3rd and Arizona. Their menu is different from most LA Italian spots, focusing on the cuisine of the owners' hometown, Bellagio, on Lake Como, in the Northern Italian region of Lombardia.
Once a month, they feature a special "Morta Della Bestia" (bit of the beast) menu, where they focus on one animal and create a special dinner where every course (except dessert) features it. This month's dinner is all about halibut:
Crudo of Halibut, Asparagus Salad, Housemade Asparagus-Ricotta Sorbetto
Housemade Halibut Raviolini, Borage Sauce
Piatto di Mezzo
Halibut Risotto, Herbs, Cherry Tomato
Roasted Halibut Fillet, Lemon-Parsley-Olive Oil, Black Polenta
Pinenut and Amaretti Cookie Semifreddo, Fresh Strawberry Sauce
The price is only $48, not including tax and tip. Also, our friend Jonathan Mitchell, the General Manager, is offering us free corkage! I'll be bringing a few bottles myself, but if you have anything you think would pair well with halibut, bring it along.
$10 reserves your spot, to be refunded when you attend the event or cancel at least 24 hours in advance.
