Not at all good. Received very little help or concern from fellow attendees. Not once was I asked if I was okay or if I needed help. If you don't show concern when it's obvious I went out of the room to cry, then it's obvious you will not be providing any constructive feedback and/or emotional support. If these expectations are too unrealistic, then it's safe to say I will not be coming back.

Tony, sorry you felt that way. There are really two kinds of drawing groups, instructor led and non instructor led. This is a non-instructor led group. The $8 dollars is really just to cover the model fee (they're not free). The CIA offers a Wednesday night drawing group for $15. While this too is more or less a non-instructor led group, the facilitator is an art instructor from CIA that will provide feedback and instruction if you wish. Otherwise, there are various places around town that offer full instructor led classes and these are typically more money. For example, Orange Art Center offers a class for ~$200 plus model fees. Here there is an instructor who will provide constant feedback.

I'm sorry to hear that too, Tony. What Paul said pretty much sums it up. Our group is not the best place to learn figure drawing, but more of a place to practice, experiment and get better. As there is no right way to draw - you can distort proportions if you want, or even abstract the figure - most artists in our group would probably not see your or anybody's drawing as something that needs correction. It wouldn't occur to anybody to offer you help. Frustration is something we all deal with regularly and just part of the process. You're always welcome back. You might try some online training, starting with YouTube, if you don't want to take a course at Orange or open figure drawing at CIA (at CIA you will have to ask for help as Paul said, as the instructor does not want to interfere unless asked).

I've found that the $8 price seems to be the best around for non-instructor led group. I think Tri-C, and Bay Arts might offer something. I would strongly recommend taking a course for beginners.

Yes really liked the gallery and the model and the people. So sorry Tony. I thought you just left. I know how I feel getting critiqued when I'm just there to have fun and practice. I'm just getting back to drawing after 30 plus years. I agree with Jeff and Paul. It's nice not having an instructor walking around giving his/her opinions. We are free to experiment and enjoy. I know I don't feel qualified to give advice. Drawing/art is very subjective. Please come back to practice your drawing and know that's what we are all doing.

Hedge Gallery is a great place to draw (thanks again to Hilary Gent!). And again, great model and people.
I really enjoyed drawing this model! I hope she comes back so I can at lest begin to look more closely at including at least a suggestion of her great, black bird tattoos. :)
Hey I work till 11pm... Wish I could be there drawing!
