3nd Annual Wet Dog "Dog Paddle"

Hey Wet Dogs,

We hate to do things without our dogs, don't you?

This event is just for them.

What: We’ll paddle with our dogs from Philipe Park to Safety Harbor Marina with our dogs in tow for a fun, exciting for them and you paddle.

Where: Philipe Park Boat Ramp

Dog criteria: Do to the size of most kayaks cockpits, safety for you and your dog, we'll have to limit the size of your dog for the paddle to 65 lbs and under for kayak rentals. If you have your own kayak and feel you can fit fido who's a little larger go ahead. Dogs must be well behaved and have their shots as well as spayed or neutered. NO AGGRESSIVE DOGS PLEASE! If you can't make the paddle with your dog you're welcome to paddle without a dog or to meet us at the Whistle Stop afterwards for lunch.

Paddle difficulty: Lol, that all depends on your dog.  Our dog "Kaya" likes to drag her paw in the water. Always makes for an interesting paddle.   Approx. 1.5 mile paddle from the park to the marina. Note: Some dogs like to jump out, so perhaps those who don't have a dog can assist with a doggie rescue if needed.

So sign up now and and SHOW US YOUR WET DOG! Doggie PFD's (personal floatation device) are recommended. Wet Dog Supporters get 10% off at "The Whistle Stop" after the paddle.

Cost: $32.10 (includes kayak rentals and gear and tax) FREE if bringing your own kayak.

Bring: water for you and the dogs, sunscreen, heel strap sandals or water shoes, NO FLIPFLOPS, appropriate paddling clothing, hat for sun protection, money for the Whistle Stop Grill and Bar.

There is a small craft advisory because of the wind- are we still a go?

    May 5, 2013

    • Carolina M.

Meetup at Philipe then if too windy everyone will drive over to Coopers Bay which is more protected area to paddle.

We're going to change the location to Coopers Bayou due to the high winds. It will be too windy for Philipe Park area. After everyone meets at Philipe we'll drive over to Coopers down the road.

Cannot make it with this wind. Our dog is very small and likes to stand atop the kayak and will not last long

    Hi Mike,
Do you have any sit on top kayaks to rent? I brought my dog on one of your past dog paddles but had my own sit on top. I am not sure how my dog would do on one that I sit in.... Thanks!

    April 5, 2013

    • Carolina M.

Sure you can Carol. We always need extra help in case the pooches decide to take a swim.

Are you meeting @ the ramp or the area near the south end of the park?

    April 29, 2013

    • Ken W.

Last year you said "ramp" and launched at the same little beach you've always launched at. BTW that ramp is nasty. We'll join you as you pass by the beach.

      April 29, 2013

    • Carolina M.

Yeah, I'm ADD some times. The rangers in the park don't like it when I park my trailer in the southern end.

I have three small dogs and a girlfriend. I have a tandem kayak but not enough room for all 4. I guess she will just have to stay home. :-)

    1 · April 29, 2013

    • Tim

After a discussion with said girlfriend, I'm leaving two of the dogs at home and bringing her and one dog. The two other dogs will forgive me, not taking a chance with the girlfriend.
