Navigation for the Kayaker 2nd part (on water)

Wet Dogs this is the 2nd part of Navigation for Kayaker

This is designed for a fun, challenging and informative experience on the water. Note: If you are well versed in navigation ie, (sailor) you you are eligible to take this course.

Description: Well meetup at the put-in for Sawyer Key (on the way to Ft Desoto) and then paddle out across Bunceses Pass toward the mangrove island trails. Here the group will put into play what they learned in the first Navigation Worksop. We'll have fun out there and really solidify what was learned in the class room while paddling and navigating in real time. Aprox. 3-4 hrs on the water. Beginners and up welcome.

Tides are: 10 am Low 4 pm High.  We should be coming back on the Flood Tide.

We're starting earlier then normal meetup times to avoid paddling during the heat of the day.

Note about kayaks: if you have a kayak smaller then 12 ft you may want to consider renting a kayak from us for ease of paddling and keeping up with the group.

We'll meetup at Billy's Stone Crab for a late Lunch and Wet Dog fellowship after the paddle.

Cost: $45 if renting a kayak $30 if bringing your own kayak. (put in your correct cost for your situation)

Bring: water, snacks, sunscreen, water shoes or sandals, light snack

What a great class. I hadn't considered the value of navigation skills with kayaking, but with all the perils such as suddenly changing weather from rain or fog, skills learned here will sure come in handy.

This was an awesome affirmation of the lessons we learned on land. We found the way with Captain Sarah! I know we'll apply this on our own excursions for fun...and safety. Paddling in the rain was so "cool" in comparison to those hot, sunny days! Thanks Terry, for sharing your wisdom and to you, Carolina Mike, for giving us this opportunity!!

This was an excellent class. An extremely useful, really great addition to the classroom portion. I was glad you went forward with the class even through the rains. And it was kind of fun mapping everything out as it was raining. The exercises on the water really cemented the lessons. I would definitely participate in more classes.

Great class. Thanks for the on the water tips to go along with the navigational training. Great job/luck fitting the on-the-water exercises between the major rains. Lunch at Billy's was a nice way to finish the class.

The day started out iffy with winds gusts of 30 knots, so we went ahead and completed the land part then it poured rain. Good thing we had plexi glass maps and grease pencils. Eventually we were able to get on the water for a few hours and shoot some bearings and map distances to navigate the mangrove tunnel at Sawyer Key. A happy group ended up at Billy's for lunch and fellowship. Next class is going to a full day event, with the land learning in the morning and the real time water navigation in the after noon. Stay tuned and don't miss out.
