Mullet Creek in Safety Harbor
After talking to Todd Perry (fellow Wet Dog) who pointed this unique put-in spot out to us recently, we've decided this could be great way to do our "Monthly Paddle to Dinner Trip" with a group as we'll as introduce the new mangrove trails at Coopers Bayou. We'll put-in on the right side (west) side of Mullet Creek and paddle 1/4 mile down the creek and out to the bay. We'll turn south paddling past the Roseate Spoon Bill rookery then cruise past the Safety Harbor Marina and Pier and on up to Coopers Bayou. Coopers is fast becoming a popular place to paddle due to the new mangrove trails being cut by the city of Clearwater as part of Pinellas Counties "Blue Ways Trails" We'll do a loop through the bayou and paddle back north past the marina to the opening of Mullet Creek and our cars.
Once all the boats are secured we'll drive a short distance to the Famous "Whistle Stop Bar and Grill" for a delicious dinner and drinks. (one of Wet Dogs Sponsors) The Whistle Stop is designed perfectly for a soggy group of Wet Dogs and food is southern cooking at the best. Paddle difficulty: Approx 3 mile round trip for beginners and up.
Special note: Wet Dog Adventures is fast approaching 2,000 members and one of the most active groups in Tampa Bay. So... I thought why not invite a friend or co-worker to come on a paddle (especially our Christmas Paddle and Party in December) or join Wet Dog and lets see if we can get to that magical number by Jan 1st 2014.
