Anclote River Paddle ROMPS (River of the month)

ROMPS trip (River of the Month Paddles)

We'll paddle the famous Anclote River located in nearby Tarpon Springs. Famous you say, it's the only river that has two eco systems. The river's northern side has a slightly different eco system then the southern side. We'll put-in at the Alt 19 bridge on the right near the Sponge Docks and paddle up the rivers meandering path and under US 19. Just past the highway we'll veer off to the left and paddle up to the even more famous "Anclote River Boat Club" If you've been there you probably laughed at that name, but that's what the bikers call it in these parts. The folks at the bar are always cordial to us, the music is great, and it has character. Its the only place I know of where if you order a beer on one end of the bar it may slide down the other end to your friend. Come join us and find out what we mean. Paddle difficulty: beginner and up paddle. Approx. 5 mile paddle. Kayaks available for rent.

We'll eat a late lunch on the sponge docks, but bring cash for a beer or two at the boat club.

Cost: $45 with kayak rental (includes all gear) FREE if you bring your own kayak.

Note: 2012 Wet Dog Supporters get 50% off of their kayak rental. Not a supporter. It's only $25/year and you get 50% off all rentals on half day trips and rentals outside of Wet Dog meetups. In addition you get your name in the hat to win the new $1000 sea kayak from Necky Kayaks at our December Holiday Paddle and Party.

Bring: Water, sunscreen, cash, water shoes or heel strap sandels NO FLIPFLOPS OR CROC due to oyster beds!

This adventure was very well organized (as usual) kudos to Carolina Mike. 23 people from very diverse backgrounds but with kayaking in common made for some really interesting conversations. The "Anclote River Boat Club" was really unique and lunch at Jacks finished the event nicely. I'm really looking forward to the next "Adventure".

Great adeventure. Good paddle, a nice group of people, a place full of character to hang out mid padle and a good restaurant to share a bite apres paddle.

Had a great time at the Anclote River Boat Club. An ramshackle, dilapidated bar on the river that was just a hoot to experience.
Enjoyed everyone in the group and Carolina Mike is a wonderful host and guide. Can't wait to go on another outing.

What time do you think we'll be done with the paddle part? I have out-of-state friends in Orlando that weekend. I'm coming to the paddle, but want to be able to plan.

Hey Dawn, just click on the location above. It's in Tarpon Springs on Alt 19 at the Bridge Cafe (Tavern) parking lot on the south side of the bridge.
