Sunny clear skies and warm waters provide a perfect paddling environment, not to mention thousands of small mangrove islands, white sand beaches, exotic wildlife & flora unique to this region, fantastic food, first class beach camping and great company. We'll have to time the tides just right to go through Sandfly Pass on this ebb tide so we'll get an early start on Friday.
High Tide on Friday is: 4:48 AM
Low tide on Friday is: 11:51 AM Itinerary:We'll figure to drive down Thursday night and stay at Dori's house in Naples. Dori is on the trip so she asked if we'd like to stay there instead of a hotel to save money. We think this is very nice of her to offer her place. Her address is 11829 Night Heron Drive, Naples,Fl. 34119 cell[masked]-7164. She said she can put up at least 8 people, only have beds for 2 couples, but have 2 sofa's if they don't want to sleep on floor with sleeping bags.
We'll wake up early and drive to Everyglades City and then pack our kayaks at the ranger station. A permit from the Park Service obtained no more than a day in advance, is required for camping at all back country sites. The permit is by first come first serve only. We will obtain this for the group. In addition there are only so many permits per island so it's first come first serve.
The plan is to get on the water between 8 am and 9 am. We'll be putting in at Chokoloskee Bay and paddling to the Sandfly pass in time to take advantage of the ebb tide. We'll camp Friday night on Racoon Key and Saturday night on the Sandy Beaches of Picnic Key.
This is backcountry primitive camping. If concerned about what to bring and how to do this attend the mini meetup regarding this trip and learn how to pack your kayak for camping. Payment info: We will require a payment in full by March, 4 th to be considered signed up for this trip. If you do not get your payment in by then you will be taken off the list and someone on the wait list will be moved up.
