  • Hello All.  Bear with me as this is my first attempt at organizing a Meetup.  I've adjusted the times so that we are not completely exhausted while driving home.

Let's meetup and bike South Bass Island and the party capital of the Lake Erie Islands - Put-In-Bay.  Hopefully we can enjoy the quieter side of what the island offers as we bike Sunday morning into the afternoon.  Stops along the way include:  Perry's Memorial, The Butterfly House, Perry's Cave, Ohio State Fish Hatchery, the State Park and the winery.  The Mojito Tiki bar sounds like a great place just to kick back and enjoy the ambiance of the island.  The ride itself is on paved roads, maybe some gravel; and a flat, easy ride. Popular vote decides where we have lunch.  Maybe we'll stick our toes in the water somewhere along the way.  Love to have you join us ...  I'd like to meet at Miller's ferry dock no later than 9:45 AM so hopefully we can get tickets for the 10 AM ferry and return at will, but no later than 3 PM.  If you don't have a bike - bike/golf cart  rental is available on the island side,  right at the ferry dock.   I'm looking for discounts for the ferry and there is a free parking area if spots are still available.

If you're not familiar with the island visit:   http://www.visitputinbay.org/ to get an idea of what to expect.  It's been years since my last trip and I'm seeing a lot of new things to see and do have been added.  Hoping to have a nice group of Whynots to enjoy the day.

    Hi Joanne,
I am so sorry that you had this horrible experience with our group. Most of us are not like this. I would have been so happy to have at least been there with my boyfriend enjoying a wonderful day.( As it appears that they did). It was so good of you to at least sponsor an event. I do support you and hope you will join us again for other events.

I find it interesting that the whole chain of conversation of us at the dock waiting with no replys has disappeared And more so instead of a thank you for trying to recover the trip when you didn't show and Dana left me standing on a dock with no numbers when he said he would call me right back with your number so I could try to round up the group never happened. In speaking with John we all checked the site and the weather/radar that morning before leaving so there was no reason to cancel . I also checked for your name at the ticket booth as well as the groups-no messages so I am sorry you feel like shit but that is your own doing. I am sorry for leaving you guys hanging and missing your scheduled ferry might have been more appropriate. The last thing I wanted to do was lead a group that day. I have been there multiple times and always find something new. I was hoping you might provide that this time.

It's too bad this was cancelled at the last minute. I drove 1.75 hours and paid the toll charges on I-80 as didn't know about the last minute cancellation. I waited with John and fortunately, Gail & Steve showed up because they didn't know about the cancellation, either. We had a wonderful time in spite of poor planning. I am sunburned and sore but it was earned in a fabulous way. Wish you guys had been there, too.

Thanks to John, Gail, and Steve for sharing a slice of heaven with me, today.

Please Note: Rather than critcize, whynot offer to help the individual that is sponsoring the event. Anyone is allways welcome to assist. People that sponsor events are not paid. They do this for the love of the outdoors and the camarderie of other like minded people. This organization is only as good as the people that support it. To continue to critcize is a sure way capsize this group. I hope that all 441 members will step-up to the plate and help Joanna and any others that volunteer to sponsor events. Joanna & I sincerely apologie for any inconvenience this cancelation may have cause. I also think an apologie is in order to Joanna too. Thank you, Dana

Gail. Apparently you are not going to let this go. I gave 3 hours notice and that was after I was on the road twice headed for PIB. The last cancellation I got was 15 minutes after I stood at a meeting point at the designated time waiting for someone who wasn't showing up. the weather shows storms till 10 am. And based on the missed forecast from Friday night I assumed I couldn't trust my weather app. I didn't remove a thing from this site. If you want to talk personally leave your number here. I will call you and you can continue to berate me as you seem to need that to feel better about yourself.
You never left an RSVP. Why would I assume people would just drop from the sky unannounced? And the conversations left here were not about this issue it was about the constant digs about your "rain sunburn". I didn't even know you were leaving these nasty remarked until someone texted me appalled at your behavior.

And If I RSVP I will do everything in my power to keep my commitment like I did on Friday night. I'm not sure what pleasure you get in making me feel like a piece of crap, Gail, but just so you know it broke my heart not going to PIB and enjoying the day with some of the nicest, fun, sweet people I've vet met. Thanks Gail. Thanks for another sleepless night

Friday night Dana posted a last minute event to Sarah's vineyard. The weather called for light rain till 7. We stood in pouring down rain till 830 before he called it. I assumed the same thing could happen at PIB I'm glad that everyone has a great time. Would having me there made it so much better ?? Doubtful. You still had a great day and no one is out anything because they attended. I never forced anyone to sign up. Each person decided for themselves if they want to take on expense. And you didn't miss out in anything as far as I can tell. I do know that I am grateful that I missed meeting you, Gail. I don't think I would have been in charge for long as it seems like you are the most comfortable controlling everyone around you. Im glad you has a great time and please post pics. Then everyone will know it was a great idea and maybe next time they might want to attend. I will definitely go to PIB this year with another meetup. And I will check my schedule before I get in the car And if i

To all those who enjoyed south bass yesterday. Just so you know I wanted to do this ride so badly. I planned and planned for weeks making calls to arrange things for the group. I got pressure to do group rates even though it appeared that there was little interest in the event. I even said this was my first lead, and Dana has suggested I try it. Basically I was flying blind on what was involved with the exception of some very wise words from Cloyce and Dana. I pride myself on keeping my commitments and I am a very conscience person in my daily life. I was just not prepared for all the late cancellations. I have been in Meetups for over a year and I have found many times events will be cancelled last minute without an explanation. I take that as part of the program. As a rule, I always check the site and event schedule to make sure nothing has changed before I head out. I would suggest you do the same. And I've never degraded someone because they cancelled an event. Never. Friday night Dana

I was one of the people that cancelled early Sunday morning. I'm glad that everyone who went had a great time. I'm not sure I understand the continued complaining about it being cancelled. Joanna made a judgment call. She's human, just like the rest of us. Everyone could have checked the website before they left their houses. Personally, I always do before a meetup. I'm sure Joanna didn't intend to inconvenience anyone and I don't understand to continued mocking about the weather, etc...unless the intention is to make Joanna feel miserable. That's not very cool, either. Just my humble opinion.

Hello all. My phone has been flooded with last minute cancellations and the weather looks a little uncooperative so I think we should postpone until a better day. Biking in the rain is never fun.

I'm not sure if this has already been sent out but I found some coupons for restaurants and "things to do" for PIB.

Hi Abigail. It's awesome that you are looking into things to do on PIB. Ive been looking for things that don't charge a fee but I think a couple of them are worth the asking price. Each person can opt in or opt out, as they wish. I currently have a couple of emails out to restaurants that advertise group rates for lunch. No one has replied yet. They definitely work on "island time". Getting pumped for the weekend. See you then

Thanks Joanna. I'm really looking forward to this as well. I've been wanting to bike PIB for a while so this is perfect... and I get to meet new people. See you soon.

It looks like the cost to ferry to the island will be $ 17.00 r/t per person with bike and coupon. $ 13.00 for those not transporting a bike on the ferry.

It's Pyratefest at PIB when we visit. Get ready for "all things pirate". Feel free to dress up in your favorite pirate gear, if you wish.... there is a 2:30P Classic Car Parade going on downtown which might be cool. That will probably be the last thing we see before heading for the ferry and back to reality.

I called Miller Ferry a while ago and the group rate is $1 off p/p for groups of 15 or more. She directed me to a site where I was able to print off a coupon for the same thing regardless of our group size. I have them and can pass out at Miller or you can print your own. Each coupon will allow up to 6 people and I printed enough for 18 people at this point. Combined with the free parking lot, the trx to the island is the lowest I can find. Still looking for attraction discounts, etc.

The two pages above mention discounts. One is a printable coupon at ConsumerDiscoverOhio.com. There is also a discount for military personnel.
