Picnic in the Templeton Haunted Cemetary

She said what??!

Yep, you heard me- I have always wanted to have a picnic in a haunted cemetary, and there is just the perfect one in Templeton!

Pack a picnic lunch, as we gather for a summer meal in the cemetary.

We will be doing grave rubbings after our lunch-

all supplies included.

So this is the plan:

We will be meeting at the First Church of Templeton

1 Wellington Rd

Templeton, Mass

which is on Templeton Comman

at 12:00

We will wait until 12:15- 12:20 for people to show up, and then we will procede to

the haunted cemetary behind the church, which is the Templeton Cemetary....

We will be there for at least an hour or more eating lunch, taking pictures, and doing grave rubbings-

You can pack a picnic lunch to have at the cemetary or, as Elizabeth has informed me, there is a place on the comman where you can get lunch called "Country Mischief" that has gourmet sandwhiches (great name! :)

I believe it is also a consignment shop that has all kinds of cool items!

You can check out their menu and website at:

http://www.countrymischief.com/mischievous_chef.html

From there, we will be doing a car train to:

Bears Den (Site of the Trustees of Reservations)

Neilson Rd., New Salem, MA

If you miss meeting up with us in Templeton, you can call me at:

(508)[masked] (Tony's phone) to find out our arrival time there

Their website is at:

About Bear's Den

Take a short walk to a scenic waterfall or the site of an historic mill.

This place is definately very haunted also, and very beautiful...

( I have stories about this one!)

About Bears Den:

Short trail to hemlock-rimmed gorge with waterfalls under 75-foot granite cliffs.

Description:

The Bear’s Den is a small, six-acre parcel abutting land owned by the state to protect the Quabbin Reservoir. The two short, moderately difficult trails, however-one leading to a gorge, one to the area beneath the falls-offer delightful rewards. The 75-foot falls are created by the Middle Branch of the Swift River as it crashes through granite cliffs. King Philip met here with other Nipmuck chieftains during the 17th century, and a mill met settlers’ needs in later centuries.

Directions:

From Rte. 2, take Exit 16 (Rte. 202) and go south 2.3 miles. Turn right on Elm St. and go 0.7 mi. Turn left on Neilson Rd. and go 0.5 mi. to pullout and trailhead on right.

Take a short walk to a scenic waterfall or the site of an historic mill.

______________________________________________________________

What makes Bear’s Den a special place?

On its way to the Quabbin Reservoir, the Middle Branch of the Swift River cascades into an intriguing woodland pool at the bottom of a secluded gorge. Here, along a short, quarter-mile trail, you have two choices: go to the left and you can explore the  enchanting waterfall; head to the right to follow the stream as it tumbles through large boulders past the site of an old mill.

According to local legend, in 1675, the great chief Metacomet (known to European settlers as King Philip) met here with neighboring chieftains to plan attacks on Hadley, Deerfield, and Northampton.

A black bear shot on the property gives the

reservation its name.

Trails

A single 0.25-mile trail; moderate hiking. Children should be monitored closely as there is a steep drop on the rim of the trail.

When to Visit

Open year-round, daily, sunrise to sunset

Please wear comfortable clothing, and good walking shoes, and definately cameras!!!

Both places are haunted.....

Lunch, drinks and bug stuff is also helpful

( I WILL have some bug spray)

For those interested, here are some websites:

This one showed the symbol of the hand with index finger pointing up. It just says that it's pointing to heaven.

And a little something about the skull and wings:
