Discuss in December: Runaway by Alice Munro--RESCHEDULED TO THURS, DEC 19TH

And the winner of the short-story collection poll, by a nose, is Runaway by Alice Munro.

Runaway is a book of extraordinary stories about love and its infinite betrayals and surprises, from the title story about a young woman who, though she thinks she wants to, is incapable of leaving her husband, to three stories about a woman named Juliet and the emotions that complicate her intimate relationships.  In Munro's hands, the people she writes about--women of all ages and circumstances, and their friends, lovers, parents, and children--become as vivid as our own neighbors.  It is her miraculous gift to make these stories as real and unforgettable as our own. My first book club meetup; small turnout meant we could all voice our opinions, and Munro's short stories definitely have many ambiguous aspects that lend themselves to discussion. Joyce, the organizer, was a very good facilitator and had good questions prepared. Very enjoyable and will attend next meetup in January.

We were small but mighty this evening! Thanks to all for your insights into this stylistically singular collection of short stories. It was a great discussion!

    Hi Joyce and everyone,
I'm home and just cannot come back out this evening. I had two days of seminars in King of Prussia, and I'm toasted. LOVED the book this time. Sorry to miss the meeting.

    Happy holidays to everyone!

I've rescheduled our discussion to Thursday, December 19th at 7:00 PM (still at B&N in Willow Grove). If you replied "yes" to 12/17 and can't make it on 12/19, please change your RSVP to "no". If you replied "no" for 12/17 but will be able to attend on 12/19, please change your RSVP to "yes".
    Thanks!

Thanks, Joyce! I have a work event in Jersey that day and hope to still make it but it will depend on when the event wraps up and the traffic.

Unfortunately my work schedule has prevented me from finishing the book. I won't be able to attend because of work. I'll see everyone in the new year.

I am sorry I am afraid to drive in the snow. If for some reason the storm does not come I will come if the meetup is still on. Happy Holidays to everyone!

Sorry about your car! I don't like driving in the snow either. I'm keeping close tabs on tomorrow's weather and will determine whether we hold the meetup sometime tomorrow afternoon. Safety first!

Sorry I can't come to the book club now because it was moved to Tuesday. I'm going to a hockey game. I could have gone if it was moved to Thursday. Have a nice time. See you in January.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
