Discuss in July: And the Mountains Echoed by Khaled Hosseini

And the winner of our most recent poll is And the Mountains Echoed by Khaled Hosseini.

Khaled Hosseini, author of the New York Times best seller The Kite Runner, has written a new novel about how we love, how we take care of one another, and how the choices we make resonate through generations. In this tale revolving around not just parents and children but brothers and sisters, cousins and caretakers, Hosseini explores the many ways in which families nurture, wound, betray, honor, and sacrifice for one another, and how often we are surprised by the actions of those closest to us. Small group, but lively and thoughtful discussion. Many different feelings about the book and writer's style, but overall a great discussion as always! See you all next month.

Unfortunately, I won't be able to make it tonight. I finished the book. I loved the beginning and the end, but found the middle a bit confusing. Sorry to miss the discussion.

I have not even read half of my book and I don't want to have it spoiled by finding out what the rest of it's about! Lol

I agree with you, Shelley. Though To Kill a Mockingbird is certainly an important book in the history of American fiction, if falls squarely into the "been there, done that" category for me (multiple readings of the book and multiple viewings of both the film as well as a live theater adaption). Personally, I had hoped to read something I hadn't read before. You are correct--it does not have a majority of the votes. There are now 2 books with 2 votes each and 1 book with 3 votes; I was hoping we'd read one of those. I'm going to ask members to "revote", which the website permits; hopefully we can get a "push" behind one of the other 3 books.

Just a comment....To Kill a Mockingbird is popular, but many of us have read and discussed it to death; could we do any of the others suggested instead? Three of the books have received two votes each, so TKAM does not have a majority of votes overall....just a thought

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
