Let's take advantage of today's mild weather and head out for a nice long walk to explore Ukrainian Village! I hear there's quite a few historic residential structures from the late 1800's as well as a number of classic eastern European churches along the route! Bring your cameras for some terrific photography opportunities.
We will meet at Polonia Park atop the Division Street Blue Line Stop at 2pm. After assembling the group, we'll head west along Division street before descending into this historical neighborhood following the route pictured here and also found at this link. The distance of this trip is about three miles. Please dress in layers, wear comfortable shoes and bring along a warm beverage if you like!
If you'd care to do a bit of reading ahead of time, you can learn a bit more about Ukrainian Village and the historic district here at this Wikepedia link. Also, here's an article from The Reader about the starting point of our journey: Article Link. And finally, here are some Quotes from Nelson Algren, a famous author who lived in the neighborhood and wrote about the poeple who made this area home in earlier times.
