Chinese New Year Parade!

Here's a link to our walking route if you arrive a little late and want to catch up.  http://bit.ly/12WahjD

During the parade, we're generally spread out all over.  Most of us tend to gather on the West side of Wentworth, two blocks south from Cermak.  Others make their way to the second floor walkway overlooking Wentworth from the public parking garage on the East side of the street, five or six blocks south on Wentworth.

On Sunday February 17th, please join your friends to ring in 2013 as the Year of the Snake in Chicago's Chinatown!

This event will take place regardless of the weather.  Many of our best events have taken place in extreme conditions!  We always find a way to make it work, even if we have to retreat indoors somewhere!  Bring along those handwarmers, thermoses, flasks, longjohns, your new Uggs, heated mittens ... whatever it takes to keep you comfortable.  This event is a couple weeks later this year so perhaps the weather will be in our favor!

The parade kicks off at 1pm, but the group will meet well ahead of time for two reasons. First, we're going to take a short stroll through an amazing Chinatown riverfront park and take in a view of Chicago's skyline that I guarantee will amaze you.  BRING YOUR CAMERAS! Also, we're meeting early so that we can grab a prime viewing spot for the parade.  If you just arrive for the parade, expect a huge crowd and reduced viewing opportunities.

For this event we are meeting in Chinatown Square.  This is about a block north of the traditional Chinatown area you are most familiar with.  This meeting place provides a nice large area for our group to gather and is centrally located for our adventure.

For specific Google directions to our exact meeting spot, CLICK THIS LINK.

You may also review and print the flyer AT THIS LINK for a photograph and map to the gathering place.

After the parade, we're likely going to divide up in many smaller groups and enjoy a meal together at several different restaurants I will recommend.  Please bring plenty of CASH to make it easier to split the bills.

Neat parade, good fireworks, great lunch at the Evergreen. A good time. Thanks Tom. The Chinese American Museum on 28th is beautiful and interesting.

Another great WCE event! Tom, I was talking to one of the shop owners and he told me that they also have a Chinese New Year Parade on Argyle Street. Just a thought for next year if the El is messed up.

Thank you again for leading the walking tour around Chinatown, Tom. I really enjoyed it!

Since I have to give a rating (there is no N/A option), I gave this 1 star, simply because I arrived 20 minutes late and couldn't find anyone. My fault. I also neglected to bring any contact information. Enjoyed myself in Chinatown, but wish I would have been able to get there sooner.

I'm not confusing the two of you, most if my comments are directed only at Susan and just happen to come after yours and sometimes I don't even see your comments as it doesn't always update right away. The only time I responded to you was when you tried making excuses for her asinine comment.

Wonderful experience, as usual---the last time I saw this parade, I was eleven years old--eons ago, so it brought back good memories.

Really enjoyed the New Chinatown tour; thanks Tom. The titanium tile work on an otherwise architecturally unimpressive Chinese cultural center was an interesting choice of building materials. That and the giant bridge were my tour favorites.
