Columbus Grill is proud to host a Middle Eastern Wine Dinner on Friday Evening, June 17th, at 8:00 p.m.

Authentic Middle Eastern Wines from Lebanon, Turkey, Morocco, and Israel, will be paired with foods from each country. AND ... our Exotic Belly Dancer will top-off the evening in a most entertaining way!!!

This Sit-Down “Pairing” Dinner is an All-Inclusive Fixed-Price Event; and the cost of $68.25 includes all of the Food and Wine (described below) that will be served to you, along with the tax, gratuity and entertainment. Reservations must be prepaid on the Columbus Grill website. (See the end of this announcement for details)

Country (and Region) Represented: Lebanon (Bekka Valley);

Salad: Fattoush (a Lebanese salad which is a great mix of fresh vegetables including tomatoes, cucumbers, capsicum, radish, green onions, parsley and mint with a bright dressing, served with pieces of crisp pita bread)

Wine: Chateau Kefraya, Les Breteches (Red)

Tasting Notes: This wine has a nice, deep red robe, lively and brilliant. The scent is vinous but is still a bit hidden. You will find some notes of ripe fruits, grapes roasted by the sun and slight floral aromas. With aeration, you will also discover vanilla and lacteous smells. In the mouth, this wine is savory, supple, fleshy, followed by a nice length with soft tannins. Made with seven grape varietals, which include Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Cinsaut, Mourvedre, Tampranillo, Carigan and Grenache.

Country (and Region) Represented: Turkey (Anatolia)

Main Course: Ispanakli Tavuk Dolmasi (savory Chicken Breast stuffed with onion, mushroom, spinach, feta cheese and red pepper, served with Turkish Rice Pilaf and Pine Nuts)

Wine: Kavaklidere (White)

Tasting Notes: Produced from Narince and Emir grapes selected from their respective vineyards of Tokat and Thrace. Since 1999, all the vintages are kept in French oak barrels for one year, and then in bottles for further year. It's a very lively wine with a nice panel of flavors whose "bouquet" develops after two years and can last up to five.

Country (and Region) Represented: Morocco (Guerrouane)

Main Course: Kebab Casablanca (tender and flavorful kebabs made of filet mignon and cooked Moroccan style basted in an Amazigh wine sauce, served with roasted potatoes cooked in Moroccan herbs and grilled vegetables)

Wine: Amazigh (Red)

Tasting Notes: Blend of Carignan, Cinsault and Alicante-Bouchet grapes and the wine-making ties to France. Dark red in color yet light in body. Soft full-bodied red with jammy black currant fruit.

Country Represented: Israel

Dessert: Jewish Coffee Cake (a dessert to make you want no other cake--just like “mamma” use to bake--moist sour cream coffee cake that will melt in your mouth)

Wine: Yarden Gewurztraminer (White)

Tasting Notes: Golden yellow in color, this wine is aromatically gorgeous and offers up many typical Gewurztraminer notes including lychee, almonds and flowers, but also a an unexpected showing of peach blossom. The wine has a detectable sweetness on the palate, is rich, but with firm acidity, rounded, mid- to full-bodied.

This wine dinner was the best one by far. The food was fabulous. It was a great chance to have food and wine from Morocco, Lebanon, Israel and Turkey. The entertainment was awesome. The belly dancer engaged everyone and got people to get up and dance. She was so good herself. After dinner we played middle eastern music and everyone danced.

Thanks to those from this group that joined! It was a blast.

Hope to see you all next time!!
