Walla Walla Road Trip II and Balloon Fest

Hi everyone

I finalized the room block with the "Holiday Inn Express" in Walla Walla

You can go ahead and call to reserve rooms.  Please when you do so make sure you ask for the "Tacoma Wine and Dine" Room Block, we have a total of 15 rooms on the block.

They will give us as many rooms with 2 queen beds as possible and there will be a few single King rooms as well.

King Rooms - $124 per night

Queen Rooms - $134 per night

Rooms will be held till April 10 close of business, there after you can ask if they still have rooms for the Tacoma Wine and Dine Block but will not be guaranteed to get the same price.

Please remember to ask for the cancellation policy before you book so you are aware when and if there will be any cancellation fees if you change your mind at a later time.

I am discussing a pre-trip meet up meeting with Steve Dische for early next week and we will be posting the time and location asap.  This will allow us to discuss room share in person unless you already have made phone calls and/or email contact with attendees.

Lastly the bus wine tour is a no go.  We did not get enough takers and the price would have gone up exponentially. So Plan B is we meet Saturday May 11th in the lobby of the Holiday Inn and we figure out who is willing to drive and who can ride with who and make it a convoy (just like last year).  The bright side is that we can hang out at any winery as long as we want and we are not limited by a bus schedule.

Greetings from sunny (72) Atlanta, I will be back on Sunday

email or post on this site if you need to talk to me.

:-)

Ute

Ok Sports Fans, I wanted to get this on the calendar so folks can do some prior planning. What a novel idea, eh :)  After much discussion with my fellow organizers on whether we should venture to Oregon for this year's Wine Road Trip, or go back to Walla Walla...Walla Walla won out, since we barely even scratched the surface. I am thinking we hit maybe 14 wineries; the over achievers of Team Ya Ya Sista Hood (Nellie, Debbie R, Kimberly K and...who was your fourth?) fairly certain they hit even more.

For this year's trip trying to figure out several options for travel, to include air and then bus rental or other options...that is the part that is under discussion. If you have ideas send them our way.

And yes I know it is Mother's day weekend, it was last year as well.

Poobah!

Hey guys, if you plan on buying wine to bring home you might want to throw a cooler in your car. Bottled wine doesn't like the temps on the eastside.

  • Steve D.

@ Pam R, first my bad, the wineries are on the west side of Walla Walla, as you enter the outskirts of the city. Potty break, not Potty breaks :) The break also serves to consolidate drivers who may have gotten separated heading out of T-Town and traffic on 18. The distillery was only a suggestion. I am confident that my driver will get us to the distillery and then on to LÉcole before they close and in time for tasting. Did I mention he has an Escort Radar Detector? If folks wish to skip the distillery and head straight to L'Ecole that is fine as well; we will eventually link up. And...if we do not make it to those wineries on the West side. Saturday we can start from there and work in toward the city...we can plan that out Friday night over dinner.

    May 7, 2013

  • Steve D.

Regarding convoy leaving early; Kim S suggested that during our Planning Meeting at Katie Downs, I thought several had agreed on doing that. Kim S is not going so those folks who wish to leave early, post a message on this board on where and when you would like to leave.

For Brother Roger's convoy, see you at 11:30 T-Mall parking lot. Again, wheels up at noon.

    May 7, 2013

  • Pam R

Hey everyone! I was looking at some of the wineries that were mentioned to be visited on the east side of Walla Walla on Friday as we are coming into town. I'm not sure how this is going to work as at least L'Ecole is only open until 5:00. If we don't leave until noon and are stopping for potty breaks and the distillery in Prosser I don't think we will make any of the wineries on the east side before they close. Also, I know there is a group leaving earlier in the day. Who is coordinating that and what is that plan, just in case I decide to leave with the earlier group?

Thanks all and can't wait for the weekend. Pam R

Jerry & I are leaving Thursday and staying the night at The Cave B Inn in Quincy. I'll give you a call Friday Steve and maybe we can hook up with you all at one of the winery's, if not we'll see everyone at the hotel.

Steve, though I'm not able to go on this trip, I thought I'd let you know that there is a winery in Richland right by the highway that has a nice restaurant with a regular food menu and a beautiful outdoor dining area. Their main entrees are a bit pricey compared to Anthony's but might be a unique experience. I was there a couple of summers ago when my girlfriends and I enjoyed a Walla Walla Wine trip and enjoyed the environment and food very much. Tagaris Winery and Taverna is the name. Hope you all have a great time!!

    1 · May 4, 2013

    • Cathy M

Mediterranean leaning, with an emphasis on greek food. Their menus are on their site and include prices. Looking at the time you are leaving, you might want to all have lunch before you leave so you can focus on the wineries before they close. Bring cheese, crackers, etc to keep you balanced between wineries! Just my suggestion, based on the experience of not getting to wineries before they close when on a tight schedule!

      May 5, 2013

    • Steve D.

Hmm Med leaning is good, eh :) Crackers and Cheese for balance. Got it :)

I have to cancel. I wish I could go and I hope everyone has a fabulous time!

    May 5, 2013

  • Steve D.

Ooops, posted in the wrong area :) My bad...I said we need to get to the eastern side of Walla Wall before L'Ecole...that would be the far western side of Walla Walla, as you come in from the Tri-Cities.

    May 5, 2013

  • Steve D.

Yes I know the posts are backwards..it is a test :)

    May 4, 2013

  • Steve D.

Depending on the time and our appetite, we may stop at Anthony’s Homeport in Richland, Wa. It is just off the Highway, right next to the Columbia River.
We want to make sure we get to the eastern side of Walla Walla to hit the following wineries before they close: L’Ecole, Woodward Canyon Winery, Cougar Crest, Reininger, Three Rivers.
From there we will head to our Hotel, Holiday Inn Express and check in and decide where we will go for dinner (if we don’t stop at Anthony’s) and the evening’s entertainment.
Since Brother Roger, The Rabbit, has an Escort Radar detector, he will take point. I would ask Steve-O to take point, since he has one as well, but if he takes his Porsche, we may not see him once he leaves the Mall parking lot.

If you still don't have a room and/or ride, post and will try to link you up.

Bathroom Break at: East bound I-90 Indian John Hill Rest area; Exit 89; last rest stop prior to Ellensburg.
