2012 TWDHH Christmas Party

Hey Sports Fans: announcing our 2012 Christmas Party. This year we have out done ourselves...and continuing to do so. Here are the basics:

 

- As has been our tradition for the past three years, Christmas Party at Thea's Rec Room.

- Social Bar and Grill will cater our event. Menu will be:

Calamari, rice balls, mushrooms, clams, chicken satay, grilled romaine.

- Social will bring in a Wine Distributor for wine tasting (you will have the opportunity to purchase wine through the distributor)

- At the moment we have two boats that will be dock side for more party room/after Christmas party/party...there could be up to four.

- I am working on group rates for the Marriott, which is just stumbling distance from Thea's.

- There will be a charge of $20 per person, which includes appetizers, two glasses of wine (actually 2.3) and the use of the Rec room. You can bring your own beverage of choice, but the payment will be the same...just saves on return trips to the bar :)

- We will use PayPal. Your reservations will be confirmed once payment is received through PayPal.

- We have to be out of the Rec Room by the stroke of midnight...but Social will still be open and we have BOATS!

- More details to come, as I think of them.

- We will need a decorating group.

Ps...I forgot to mention, the suggested attire is formal/semi-formal; the operative word in this sentence is "Suggested", not have to :) In the past years folks have shown up from jeans to tux. Whatever you like totally up to you. And yes, I know this is a repeat email...but wanted to add this part so everyone gets the message. For our Service Men/Women...Blues is always great. Hanu/Tigger said he is wearing his Blues.

    What a great night of dancing, meeting new friends and seeing all the regulars have a fun evening. It was refreshing and appreciated to have members I've never spoken to before, approach and say such nice compliments, welcome my best friend and make an effort to conversate when its often difficult to do at first. This was one of my favorite Meetups. Thank you to everyone ~ Merry Christmas.

    Oh Tay, last words of wisdom for this event tonight. We are set! Met with Phillip, one of the owners of the Social. Here are the final details: As mentioned previously, wine tasting...2.3 glasses per person, how the f you tell .3 I have no clue, but I am going with it. Puh Puh's through out the night. You can purchase wine from the distributor, if you like. You can bring your own beverage if you like. What you can not do is buy a drink at social and walk it over. Social will have staff at the Community Room to take your order. Please be patient, it does take time to take orders walk across and back. Social will remain open until 0100, that means Sports Fans you have a delima, do you go to Roy's Party boat or the Social...your decision. Tally Ho! Let the Games begin!

    Directions to Thea's Landing Community Room: facing the front enterance of the Social Bar and Grill, take a right face; facing north toward Seattle. Walk approximately 10 meters and you will come to a set of concret steps leading up. At the top of the stairs there is gate. The gate door should be propted open; proceed straight to the next door which leads into Thea's Landing Condos/apartments. That door should also be propted open, proceed inside and take your first left. The Community Room is to your left, can't...well ok, shouldn't miss it.

    Reminder: the wait list is set for manual mode (the only option available at this time) MU will not send out messages if a slot opens. You will have to periodically check this site to see if a spot is open. Also, in the manual mode it is not first come first serve. Once a slot opens, anyone on the wait list can nab an open slot regardless of where you are on the list.

    Additional comments: Parking can be problematic (Tigger, that means it could be a problem, love you man) for this venue, suggest you taxi down (for more than one reason). Reminder, this is byob. Fairly certain Social will not let you buy a beverage at their bar and then walk it over to the room. I will talk to the owner today to see if the wait staff can take orders at the community room. Item last (for now) it has been suggested to bring folding chairs because of the limited seating. You can try but I doubt if there will be room. As the evening progresses, more folks will be standing up then sitting down. I lied, item last. Since there is a waiting list and if you are already signed up and want to bring a friend at the 11th hour. DO NOT CHANGE YOUR RESERVATION, the system will bounce you and your guest to the waiting list. Have your guest sign up for TWDHH and then RSVP for this event, they will be put on the waiting list.

    Waiting list has been established, but it is on the manual mode. The only option the site will give me at this time. That means if you want to go and have not already signed up. Periodically check this site. If the number drops below 80 you then have to go in on your own and tag a spot. Site will not let us go beyond 80

    Folks I have decided to close reservations. I think we are past occupancy capacity. We have one boat confirmed. If we get too crowded folks can move over to the boat or the Social and we can randomly switch. I will be sending out more details of how to get to the community room and phone numbers of Organizers who can assist in vectoring you to the room.

      I thought of that one, too, I agree it's a great place to stay. Steve asked specifically about the Marriott, so that is what I checked, but the price is the same at both places for Saturday, Dec. 8th.

    Sorry to say, the group sales dept. does not seem very interested in our business. I first spoke to them a couple of weeks ago, then after NUMEROUS messages, finally got a call back today offereing $139 a night which is what I found online anyway. And, they would not hold rooms. They are at the bottom of my list for future group business in Tacoma.

    News Flash! I am changing the start time of this Meetup from 1700 (5pm) to 1800 (6 pm). I just found out that there is another party in that room before us. It goes from 1200 - 1700; I need the extra hour to ensure the room is clean and decorated. Ute and Cindy L hopefully will be able to get into the room before that time to decorate - I am working on that. So please adjust your schedule, thanks and sorry about that. That said, Ute and Cindy would love to have assistance in help decorating the room. Those who are willing/interested, please post here. Thank you!
