We’re going to end the month with a fun wine tasting at a new wine bar in Culver City, Bar & Garden. Bar & Garden specializes in small-batch, handmade artisan spirits, beer and wines. Their collection of wines comes from vineyards that are, at a minimum, farmed without herbicides or pesticides. They focus on small producers and harder-to-find items.
Tonight, tasting event “Think Big, Drink Small: Small Production Wines of California & Oregon”, features an exclusive group of wines topping out at 250 cases per year.
The wines to be poured this evening will be
Lucques Rose, 2011, North Coast, CA - 65% Carbonic fermented Trousseau Gris and 35% stainless steel fermented saignee of Pinot Noir. This is a bright rose filled with energy and verve!
Teutonic Wine Company White Blend, 2012, Willamette Valley, OR – 30% Müller Thurgau and 70% Pinot Noir pressed off as a white. This wine is a crowd pleaser with its aromatics from the Thurgau and structure and acid from the Pinot Noir.
Harrington Lagrein Fratelli Vineyard, 2011, Santa Clara Valley, CA - Rarely-found-in-California varietal. Their version of Lagrein, a grape native to Italy's Alto-Adige, comes from the Fratelli Vineyard, which is planted on the gravelly banks of Uvas Creek in the Santa Cruz Mountains. Inky in the glass, like Lagrein should be, this entices with wonderful aromas of wild plums, cherries, pipe tobacco and cedar. Soft on the palate, but with balancing acidity and tannins that keep it from becoming flabby, the flavors are redolent of blackberries and cream, with accents of tar, leather and graphite, the last of which lingers on the finish.
Field Recordings Petite Sirah, Crockett Hill Vineyard, 2010, Santa Ynez Valley, CA - Another stunner! This wine has a profound deep royal purple color. It offers massive concentration from start to finish. One is welcomed with stunning aromatics of dark chocolate, cassis and ash. This full bodied wine offers exquisite minerality, with flavors of blackberries and maple syrup.
Accompanying the wines, Bar & Garden will have cheeses, artisan breads, figs, caperberries & other goodies.
The cost for the wine tasting with the nibbles is $15. You can pay at Bar & Garden (cash or credit card).
The wine tasting ends at about 8 p.m. It is recommended that you arrive earlier in order to have an opportunity to enjoy the wines for this tasting with the nibbles.
There is free lot & street parking. Please read the signs for any restrictions. It should be a great evening. Join us to check out this new wine bar! Look forward to seeing you there!
