We had another great wine tasting last night. Thanks to all that attended and to Dave & Lindsey for hosting. We met a lot of new people and everyone did a great job of mingling.
The name tags work great so we don’t have to introduce each other or try to remember the name of someone we have talked to a dozen times.
One of the problems we have found in meeting people is where do you start when talking with someone. So Ellen & I talked about an addition to name tags. We would like to add your occupation to everyone’s nametag in three words or less. It is totally optional but it sure would help to get conversation started.
I met a couple of fun/interesting ladies that said they worked for the government. When I pressed for what area they admitted they worked for the Dept of Revenue. It sounded like they didn’t feel comfortable admitting it, which was fine. We’d like your occupation NOT necessarily who you work for. They could use accountant, auditor or whatever. What the occupation does is just gives us all a point to start conversation. And hey in this economy knowing someone else in your industry isn’t all bad.
We ask for three words of less and fewer than 30 characters so we can fit it on the name tag. Elementary Teacher means much more than teacher, so work on it. We have no deadline for the info and be creative. If you don’t want anyone to know what you do you can use: retired, supreme allied commander, writer, parent, live with parents, what you wanna be when you grow up or a whole host of things.
Anyhow think about it and if you desire your occupation printed on your name tag just email us and we’ll get it on for future events. There is concern about people trying to sell things at our events. My answer is simply; I hope they have fun on their last night in the group! And we have never found that to be an issue. But that said if you do have a business and people approach you, we have no problems with that. We just don’t want people coming to our events to sell to our guests.
While we are on future events if you would like to host one please contact us. We now have home wine tastings filled through our Red Solo Cup Party in June, July is open. If you have a brewery or someplace you think the group would enjoy, please contact us. We only ask that it be on a Fri, Sat or Sunday because MOST of us need to be up the next morning weekdays.
Also someone asked about bringing friends to our future events. By all means add them to your RSVP. We’d like their names under comments when you sign up so we can get them name tags so they feel an equal part of the group.
Other then that, thanks to you all for making our groups fun!
