The grapes for LaVelle Vineyards' award-winning Riesling and Pinot Gris wines are grown at their Elmira property. From The Deck at the top of the vineyard, you can see the vineyard, the surrounding hills, and Fern Ridge Lake. Micaela, LaVelle's events coordinator, has invited our group to the vineyard on Sunday afternoon, August 11. Group members will be able to taste wines at the tasting room, buy a glass or bottle of their favorite, and hop on the "mule" for a ride through the vineyard up to The Deck, where we will gather (all -- except the glass or bottle -- at no cost). (Or, stay down below and lounge in the shade, if you wish.) There may be a food cart that day, or maybe not. So bring picnic food to share. Pictures of The Deck:
Be sure to taste the Riesling -- I think it is the best Riesling produced locally. And taste the big red wines -- Merlot, Syrah, and Trilogy, grown in the Columbia valley.
Ask Micaela about their wine club -- the club discounts are as high as 50%.
There is a lot of very interesting information about the new tasting room in the International Marketplace, and about production of LaVelle wines, at their blog:
