5/17/08 Arthur Avenue Walking tour & visit to Bronx Botanical Garden

Please join us on Saturday, 5/17 for a personalized tour with friends of Joan D who are the famous business owners of the mozzarella, bread, and other Italian specialty shops in the Belmont section of the Bronx - Arthur Avenue. Grazie, Joan!

Some of the shops we will be visiting Joe's Deli to see how they make heavenly fresh mozzarella and then Terra Nova, the bread store. And there will be many other delicious stores to visit!

We did a similar tour last year, and it was really fun. (Look for the photos in our website's photos section!!)

This year, it will be an experience you won't want to miss!!

Depending on how we feel, we'll end the afternoon with a visit to the nearby Bronx Botanical Garden

I will be meeting a group in Manhattan at 10:45 a.m. at W. 96th street subway station (north end of platform) to travel up to meet the rest of the group at 12:00 noon at Joe's deli. We will be taking the #2 train to Pelham Parkway and then the #12 bus west to Arthur Avenue. If you wish to travel up there on your own, the address for Joe's deli is 685 E. 187th Street. Their phone is (718) 367-7979. The day before the tour I will email everone an update and give you my cell phone number to call me in case you get lost or delayed. Please try to arrive on time so we can get started promptly!

Grazie!

Thank you Lisa and Joan for a great tour. We're still enjoying all the goodies we picked up on our expedition. It was great to see how the items we indulge in so often were actually made.

We had a wonderful time watching Joe of Joe's deli lovingly make the mozzarella! He made bocconcini and twists. Then we went to Terranova bakery and saw the very old coal ovens. We wandered down Arthur Ave. and bought more goodies and stopped in at the covered market. We also had some cappucino and pastries...Please for those of you who signed up and didn't attend, in the future you must change your reservation prior to the day of the event. The turnout was lower than expected, and others could have participated if you had properly updated your reservation. Failure to do so in the future may put your membership at risk.
