Meetup: Beer, Wine, Chili, & Books!

Hold this date! In an email a couple of weeks ago, I mentioned this Meetup. I just now have most of the details to post to the site. This is a Greenville Wine Meetup I'm really excited about, since you know how often I recommend books to you!
Jill Hendrix, the owner of Fiction Addiction on Woodruff Road, has invited us to hang out at her store, enjoy chili she is making from the
The Veselka Cookbook (a wonderful Ukranian restaurant in the East Village, NYC, near where Jill worked when she was living in Manhattan).
So, beer, wine, chili, & books . . . what could be better?? Actually, one thing that could be better is that we are having the chance to
support a wonderful local bookstore. I'm as guilty as anyone of being short on time and just clicking "Buy Now" at Amazon or Barnes & Noble online. But if we care about Greenville; if we care about local merchants prospering; if we care about local restaurants surviving, then we have to show that we care! Jill has worked in New York, in the book publishing industry. She established the successful "
Book Your Lunch" series of author visits and luncheons in Greenville, so she's employing her contacts and creativity in our community. She's also great about getting to know her customers, so that she can intelligently recommend books they'll enjoy (that's a lot more personal, and a lot more accurate, than a website's "Other customers who bought this book liked." But this is not about knocking web retailers. It's about commending Jill for a job well-done in Greenville and having a great time together! So . . . now, read on! Jake Morris, of Ararat Imports, is going to be providing Ukranian beer to pair with the chili, along with a line-up of central European wines you will NOT have tasted elsewhere. Very cool. Very much fun. Very limited number of openings, so stay with me to the end of this Meetup description! Jill is going to have copies of The Veselka Cookbook, as well as some of "
Richard's Recommendations for the Very Best Wine Books in The World!" You can see "RRFTVBWBITW"if you click
here.
The cool thing about that page, if you click to see it, is that it is your very own Greenville Wine Meetup page at Jill's store! These are books I've selected for us, with comments designed to help you choose from among them -- whether for yourself, or as gifts for friends this year (yes, the gift-giving season is coming again quickly!). There are even two beer books, to help us prepare for our upcoming Beer Meetups. Although Jill may have
some of the books in stock, my list is long enough (and specialized enough), the very best and safest course to ensure you get what you want it to pre-order, and then pick up your books that night. The totally wonderful thing is that, if you go to the link in the last paragraph (the "click here"), you can then click on any book and reserve your copy. Jill has posted my comments about each book and why I selected these. Hope you'll find one or two (or five!) interesting. If so, be sure to pre-reserve now by clicking through the title to Jill's pre-ordering system. Don't miss this one. The weather should be a little cooler by October, so Ukranian chili, beer, and wine with friends will be just the ticket! But as I mentioned earlier, the number of people Jill's store can accommodate for a tasting is more limited than restaurants or some of the venues where we meet. So RSVP to hold your space soon! Let me know if you have questions! Looking forward to seeing you there. By the way, you can reserve any number of books with Jill, even if you can't attend (or don't make the 30 person cut-off). Just go to the "RRFTVBWBITW"
here.

I thought the idea of the Meetup was great. However, I was not very fond of the particular wines that were presented. (To each his own)

It was a great combination of wine, chili and books. Richard's comments on the books were excellent and helpful.

This was a great idea for a meetup! It was a fun evening to sip & learn & browse through books & enjoy a heartwarming bowl of Jill's Ukranian Chili. We will enjoy our purchases of wine and books, and even purchased a few Christmas gifts. Great timing!

Jill always has GREAT recommendations for great novels; good stories! Visit Fiction Addiction any time, but really glad to see you'll be coming to the Meetup. Talk with Jill then, too!

Also interested in some other good reads; and looking for a really good story right now. Does Jill have some recommendations?
