Sonoma County, since I'm from there. Oh, yes, those folks in Napa make reasonably good wine, too. ;-) Paso Robles is my choice for California's best new region. France and Italy are always favorites. And some wineries in Virginia are rising stars!
Sancerre, from Domaine Hippolyte Reverdy. But hey, I've had a couple of other crisp whites--a Silvaner from Franconia, Germany, and a Lake County, CA, Sauvignon Blanc--for under $15 (under $10 for the Sauv Blanc) and they were great, too!
Hard question! Tend to drink Whites when hot outside; reds when cold, although food matching matters. Great Pinot Noirs are wonderful almost any time (prefer Burgundian, or if from California, classic approach like Joe Davis' Arcadian).
Wine lover! Teaching about wine is a joy. Was on staff, Chateau St. Jean in California. Am a Certified Wine Educator (Society of Wine Educators) and Certified Sommelier (Court of Master Sommeliers). Back in SC now, living near our grandchildren!
