Piemonte and Fiuli (both in Italy)
Definitely red for most cases but, unlike many waiters pretend, I pick the wine accordingly to the food I'm having. White is great for a happy hour (Prosecco) or a Gewuertztraminer but I mostly leave it for the fish.
You can't have just one but I give you a hint: Lambruscone Campanone from winery Lombardini. Dark red, fresh, full bodied and... sparkling!
I would say I'm a sort of Refosco dal Peduncolo Rosso. Unexpected, not popular, scented, full bodied but when you try it, you love it.
