Adam of the Candadian Tire Innovations Data Centre team will talk about their vision for Winnipeg's developer community and their new Data Centre.

Winnivote

Time permitting, we will review the ongoing Winnivote group project and add a feature.

Sponsorship

Since Canadian Tire established their new Data Centre in Winnipeg, they have been planning to help build a stronger User Groups community and have decided to sponsor our Ruby meetups.

Really appreciate the opportunity to connect with you guys and glad you were willing to hear me out with regard to my vision of a unified developer community. Kyle and Amir, if you could reach out to Peter Braun from Winnipeg.js, Darcy Lussier from the .net group and Dave Engel from the Winnipeg PHP group I think we could get the start of something more cohesive going on. In talking to Dan last night, Darcy and Peter earlier and Kyle, I think there is certainly the interest in getting this movement going.

I'll be sure to keep pushing the conversation on this end. I've submitted my trip report already, suggesting that Canadian Tire and its partners at the government and education level do more to invest in and foster the developer, innovation and startup communities in the region. I know Craig Haney, Rex Lee and Eugene Roman all agree that these communities are vital, so I want to push them to act.

Thanks for the opportunity to speak tonight. My slides are at http://ertw.com/chef-walberg-winnipegrb/ . Also, a friend contacted me last night saying they need someone to help them figure out the online store component of their Yola site. Probably a good job for one of our recent grads? sean@<the domain in the url above>

Any discussions about ops, as well as overall architecture of rails projects would be great!

How are you guys doing things at CTC?

However, in Winnipeg, we want the right platform for the right job, be it javascript for one, Ruby for another, c++ and unity for another.

In the end, we want the right people pushing ahead with modern platforms that make us fast at what we do.

Looking forward to it. I can talk about the stuff I've been doing with Chef for systems automation if there is interest in the ops side of the house.

I'd definitely like to learn more about Chef! Should I add you to the description? How long would you like to speak for?
