The New Island Festival brings the greatest elements of European outdoor performing arts festivals to Governors Island. All of Governors Island will be the stage for the Dutch, American, and other international artists who will utilize the waterfront promenade, historic homes, barracks and open green spaces to re-imagine this Island in the middle of New York Harbor. Performances will begin in the early afternoon and continue through the evening - this will be the first time Governors Island has been open at night.

The New Island Festival features a variety of FREE theatre, music and dance performances, although there are several performances that cost $15 individually or $35 for a passport that gives access to any paid performance. See Festival Program for details.

This Saturday, the Festival is open from 11 am to 11 pm. The ferry to Governors Island departs from the Battery Maritime Building located adjacent to the Staten Island Ferry in lower Manhattan every half an hour from 10 am to 10 pm. There are also free ferries to Governors Island from the Fulton Ferry Landing in Brooklyn every 20 minutes from 11 am to 5:20 pm. Details of how to get there.
