Spiritual Poetry Meetup

Once a month, we get together to share spiritual poetry, light refreshments, and talk about what the poems mean to us. What a gas! Each meetup is a sumptuous feast; to hear all the possible interpretations of poems or lines of poems. Its a great way to meet people who enjoy poetry in this life and those who did from an age gone by! Truly a delightful peephole into the lives of personalities who read poetry and those who left them to us!

You can bring your favorite book of poems or choose a poem from the many books we have on hand, .... you can read a poem, share copies of a poem, chat or just enjoy the snacks and chew away listening..whatever feels comfortable. The mood is relaxed and we come together in a space that welcomes all views. Our hope is that you find a connection with others who share a love for poetry ....and and perhaps catch a phrase or a line which connects you more deeply with the poet within...Spirit!

Should you feel inclined, bring a fave snack or finger food you wish to tantalize tongues and words have a way of reaching the hearts taste buds!

We hope you can make it! The May session is on the 3rd Saturday of the month!

(P.S. For the poets among us, we are grateful to you for bringing your insights and heart-knowledge to our group, and for understanding that this is a place to share others' poems, not our own.)

It was such a heart-felt afternoon! I had a wonderful time -- it was amazing how even poems chosen at random fit themes and comments as if they had been planned. Here are the poems people read:
    “Playtime” ~ William Blake
    “The Guest” ~ Kabir
“In Any Gathering” ~ Rumi (aka “Any Chance Meeting”)
    “Mindful” ~ Mary Oliver
“Every Foot a Shrine” ~ St. Thomas Aquinas
    “You Darkness” ~ Rilke
Untitled Poem (aka “The Bride Wants Her Lover” or “My body and mind are in depression because You are not with me”) ~ Kabir

And thank you Alma for the beautiful book that opened to the Blake poem for us just on cue...

Just wanted to list the poems from our last meet-up -- The poems we shared included Blake's "A Little Boy Lost," Dierdre O'Connor's "Translation," Naomi Shihab Nye's "Kindness," a couple of very different poems by Rumi ("The Lame Goat," and "The Chance of Humming"), and William Ernest Henley's "Invictus." Very inspiring, and great discussion.

Look here ladies, if you missed the last ones, do not miss the next one! We had sooo much fun. If you dont like poetry, you will learn to love it with these meetups. If you do love poetry, it is such a gas to hear the many many interpretations!

I will have to miss this one, heading north for my son's graduation. But yesterday's get together was awesome. Still thinking about some of the poems and how we are able to use other's poetry to reflect our own uncertainties or dreams. Lots of fun! Thank you Shanti and Alma for hosting a lovely time.
