Women of Color Networking and Friendship Circle Pages

Welcome to Women of Color, a Networking and Friendship Meetup in the Charlotte area. As history has shown us, Women of Color often face challenges both professionally and personally that sometimes only we can understand. This group is a social arena in which we can discuss, vent and laugh about the many trials and tribulations we face as Women of Color.

What makes a Woman of Color? We have no definition of color; Women of Color know who they are by virtue of their experiences. All nationalities are welcome! We also serve as a networking conduit for those interested in changing or starting new careers, or for those who are small business owners. Each month we will have activities ranging from: volunteering, lunches, dinners, walks, fitness activities, theater outings, discussions, occasionally we will have a member open their homes, where members bring drinks and potluck meals to be shared with the group. These are just a few of our activities, and we do encourage suggestions! Because of the multifaceted dynamics of our members, this group can develop into whatever our members decide. Most of our members start out as newcomers to the Charlotte area, and find this group is a great way to build a foundation of close friends in a new city. Some of our members have been in Charlotte all of their lives or many years and use our group to find new activities to engage in.

Whatever the reason you have decided to join, Welcome!
WOC Group Policies:

Membership dues:

As of September 13, 2013 the collection of dues has been suspended until further notice.

No-Show Policy:

This group is run by people who volunteer their time. It is not fair to RSVP “yes” for meetups and not attend, because you are taking a slot that another person who wanted to attend. Some events require an official RSVP, like restaurants, who will not seat groups until all are present. Or some gyms, yoga studios, museums need confirmation beforehand to handle space issues. Events at private homes, means the hostess prepared food and drinks for a set number of guests, so please be considerate and change your RSVP if you can’t attend.

Therefore, you are allowed 3 no-shows (e.g., RSVP “yes,” but don’t show up for an event) during a 6 month period.

1. If your plans change, you can change your RSVP until the deadline.

2. If you register a guest and they cannot attend, please change your RSVP.

3. After the third no-show, you will be removed from the group’s membership role.

So RSVP responsibly!

We know that things come up and sometimes there is an emergency. If you have an emergency please reach out to the organizer and let them know. This is why we allow three in a 6 month period.

REMOVED MEMBERS:
Please note, if you were dropped from membership due to failure properly RSVP or for being disruptive to other members, you may rejoin the group after 1 year. Just contact the head organizer via email and with your intention to join the group. You will be reinstated with the ability to RSVP and participate in meetups.
