The Women's Divorce Support Group of NJ Pages

ABOUT OUR GROUP:

Welcome to The Women’s Divorce Support Group of New Jersey! We are a peer therapy support group comprised of an empathic group of women who meet to help each other navigate the incredibly painful and devastating aspects of separation and divorce. We offer a safe haven where women can talk freely, share their emotions, and be understood by women who are experiencing similar struggles.

Even as we are going through a tremendous amount of pain, we pride ourselves in helping to instill a sense of self control and understanding. You will leave our meetings feeling supported and inspired to conquer this very trying phase of your life.

Women at any stage of the divorce process from separation to post-divorce are invited to join us. Some women may be just thinking about divorce and need a place to explore their feelings. Other members are going through their divorce, and our veteran members often remain involved after finalizing their divorce in order to continue working on healing, addressing parenting issues, financial concerns, dating again, and re-building their self-esteem. Our "veterans" also offer valuable insights and “lessons learned” to those who are beginning the divorce process.

We encourage our members to seek the assistance of a licensed therapist and/or psychiatrist, if needed. We also strongly recommend that you speak with an accountant even before you retain an attorney.

If you have questions before joining the group, please contact our Group Organizers by clicking on the "Contact Us" link and we will respond to your questions as soon as possible.

Goals of our Support Group:
* Provide women with emotional support; and guidance about issues and concerns that commonly occur in the divorce process
* Share resources and information to help you be prepared and capable of directing your divorce settlement with knowledge and understanding of the options and legal realities
* To offer camaraderie
* To help each other heal and create a positive, hopeful outlook

About our Members:
We are women from diverse socioeconomic, ethnic, and racial backgrounds, and are of various ages and stages of divorce. Some of us are parents and others are not.

We ask that our members be supportive and non-judgmental and to respect each others' confidentiality. Members need to feel safe and comfortable interacting in a group setting and to share their experiences, feelings and thoughts and to offer encouragement, constructive feedback, and information with each other.

This group is for women only.

FEES:
We ask for a contribution of $5 at each meeting to help defray the costs of maintaining the meet up site with the balance going to our meeting site that so graciously allows us to use their space.

We usually meet on the 4th Wednesday of each month from 7:00-9 p.m. Once you join the group, you will automatically receive emails about upcoming meetings and our social events along with instructions on how to RSVP.

What to expect at meetings?
Members share their story, ask questions, learn from others, and find that they are finally understood and not alone in their pain and grief. Others are looking to understand the legal process, and are comforted by practical information. Whatever your needs, we are hear to help. You are welcome to make it a monthly commitment, or come as your needs and schedule permit. Whatever works for you works for us.
