Aussie Historical Fiction: The Light Between Oceans by M.L Stedman

After four harrowing years on the Western Front, Tom Sherbourne returns to Australia and takes a job as the lighthouse keeper on Janus Rock, nearly half a day’s journey from the coast. To this isolated island, where the supply boat comes once a season, Tom brings a young, bold, and loving wife, Isabel. Years later, after two miscarriages and one stillbirth, the grieving Isabel hears a baby’s cries on the wind. A boat has washed up onshore carrying a dead man and a living baby.

Tom, who keeps meticulous records and whose moral principles have withstood a horrific war, wants to report the man and infant immediately. But Isabel insists the baby is a “gift from God,” and against Tom’s judgment, they claim her as their own and name her Lucy. When she is two, Tom and Isabel return to the mainland and are reminded that there are other people in the world. Their choice has devastated one of them.

I don't know all of the women's names who were in our group tonight, so I went ahead and marked most all just so that I don't miss anyone. Lol

Tonight was a perfect night for this month's fiction Club meet up. There was 6 of us in our group, we were all able to bring up interesting topics and have lively discussions about this month's book "The Light Between Oceans". I got the opportunity to meet 4 new faces (to me), I should have got their names. Can't wait until next months meeting.

I guess I don't know what I am doing because I thought I was confirming my attendance to tomorrow's meet up group. I screwed up by replacing myself back on the wait list, which I didn't want. So I'll be there! Lol

Hi, this is Martha Morales. I've been on the for a couple of months now. I read the novel Light Between The Oceans...beautifully written. I noticed there are 12 attendees and the meeting place hasn't changed. Does anyone know when us on the wait list may be able to attend this month's group? Any reply would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I'll be in Alabama for work y'all! Kim had an idea of different members leading the discussions since we have a lot of awesome teachers.

Kim mentioned she had read the book and I told her I had started reading it. We both think it is a worthy read. Right, Kim? I'll share the credit with her :)

    See you in Sept.
