I would definitely be interested in reading The Feminine Mistake: Are we giving up too much?.  Very pertinent subject in my life right now.

Hello ladies-

Suggestion/Recommendation:  This is sort of outside this group's area, but I am recommending this book to all my female friends and I would love to get together with a group of people to discuss it, as part of this Meetup group OR just with anyone who is interested:

The Feminine Mistake: Are we giving up too much?  by Leslie Bennetts

Bennetts certainly has a point of view/an opinion on the issue of women working, but even if you disagree, her arguments are good, thought-provoking and absolutely worth factoring into your decision to opt-out of the workforce for a bit or for a longer period of time.  I think women tend to consider the short-term, not the longer-term effects on their careers.  There are also some fascinating chapters about the effects of money on relationships more generally.

Personally, I am far from having children, but I have been trying to decide what to do with my career, so a lot of her points have made me think a lot.

Hope you are well-
Jill

Hi All,

I hope you aren't stuck in a snowdrift in this Chicago winter wonderland. It was suggested to me that we get suggestions and run the poll at the first half of the month so that way members who finish February's book can go ahead and pick up March (and so on for future months). Makes sense.

So, I'm calling for all book suggestions for March. I will post a poll either the evening of Thursday, Feb. 7th or the morning of Friday, Feb. 8th. The poll will run for a week and I'll send a message out when the poll closes with the chosen book. Feel free to suggest a book that's been on a previous poll.

Also, this is a reminder that there's still an open poll about how the use extra dues money. So far, 2/3 of the votes have chosen an end-of-the-year party. If this is the consensus, I want to suggest raising the dues to $2 a month----this would net us around $600 for an end of the year party!! Thoughts?

Have a good weekend!
-Laura
