Making Stair Balusters on the Lathe - Free demo!

Join us for a fun and informative lathe demo--how to turn custom stair balusters!
Our resident wood turning expert, Ben Cabot, will demonstrate the basics of spindle-style turning on the lathe using stair balusters as an example.

If you've ever had to find replacements for missing wooden balusters on a staircase, you know it can be difficult--and expensive--to find a match. We have a better solution: do it yourself. With a little training on the lathe, you can save a lot of time and money.

Need a few balusters? This meetup's for you!

Don't care about balusters? Come by anyway to see the lathe in action, check out the studio, and meet other members of our group.

Ben was a great teacher and very articulate...makesville is a great space and I look forward to checking it out again real soon.
Thanks Robin for putting this together.

Seeing what a lathe could do interested me. However, I don't think I'll be making stair balusters anytime soon. But then the bowls that were shown as examples of what a lathe could do were beautiful. Learning to make bowls on a lathe could definitely be something that would appeal to me.

Ben did a great demonstration (despite some technical difficulties) of spindle-style turning with good Q&A from the participants. Thanks for coming everyone!

hey robin: i thought it was good. i've watched a lot of david marks and norm turning but it was fun to see in person and be exposed to what goes on with the speed, dust, etc.

I like the studio a lot. it's a great space and i will continue to follow the offerings.

    Thanks very much.
