Japanese vs. western hand tools

Want to learn more about Japanese style chisels, planes and saws?
Join us for a presentation by Joel Moskowitz of Tools for Working Wood. We'll learn some interesting history about these tools and how Japanese and western style differ--how they're made and used, and why you might choose one style over the other.
Joel is bringing a selection of tools to look at and if there's time we may get a quick demo on how to use some of them.
This meetup is FREE.

Fantastic presentation! Joel is obviously extremely knowledgeable and talented. I was inspired to pull out my own Japanese saws this morning and practice so that I wouldn’t forget what I learned last night.

Was great. Lively, informative, entertaining, and really learned a lot. Only suggestion would be more stools, or at least have them at the ready for these events if it's going to be longer than 30min or so. Snacks were really nice too.

Joel Moskowitz gave a very interesting and wide-ranging presentation. His knowledge is very deep on this subject, especially the history of how these tools are and were manufactured through the ages. Having all the tools laid out on the table was very helpful--we were able to easily see and feel the differences between the various style of chisels, planes and hand saws. A lot of great info packed into a short presentation!
