Movie Night: 'The Unbelievers'

  • August 12, 2014 · 7:00 PM
  • UU Church of Worcester

On August 12th we will be showing 'The Unbelievers'. It follows renowned scientists Richard Dawkins and Lawrence Krauss across the globe as they speak publicly about the importance of science and reason in the modern world - encouraging others to cast off antiquated religious and politically motivated approaches toward important current issues. The film includes interviews with celebrities and other influential people who support the work of these controversial speakers. There will be time for discussion after the movie for any interested. Feel free to bring comfy chairs if you wish. Also bring any snacks or beverages you'd like. It can get warm in the hall so something cold might be a good idea. See you there! Oh! And feel free to bring a monetary donation for the Education Drive (or new/slightly used backpacks)!

The movie offered nothing in the way of information but was simply an attack on religion. If the goal of Humanist meetings is to ridicule religion then it really offers nothing. Belief that there is no God has no more scientific validity than the belief that there is a God. Early on in the movie the cosmologist made the statement that it was right to ridicule the beliefs of others. That's bullying and shows a small mind. The attempt to define God is beyond me but I would not ridicule those who have a need to define God just as I don't ridicule those who believe in undirected evolution. Just as the teachings of Christ have been corrupted, Darwin's findings have also been corrupted. Where Darwin said evolution could have happened without divine intervention, his writings have been reinterpreted and presented as undisputed fact that God has no relevance with regard to the development of species. I have a problem seeing God as a programmer but no problem at with intelligent designers.

Bob, nothing in science is the last word, BUT since Darwin proposed his theory, it has been repeated confirmed and NEVER been disproven. Ever.

And your silly chicken and the egg question could just as easily be put, "Which came first, the baby or the adult.

We just grab a coffee and speak French. Some people have been coming every week for months... it creates a kind of warmth to the group.
