RE: [wordpress-184] Meetup details changed: Atlanta WordPress Users Group September Meetup

I’m looking forward to seeing everyone as well.  I wanted to add that the registration closes on September 14th (2 weeks before the event).  They are going to cap attendance at 300 people this year.  If they hit 300 before the 14th, then registration could close earlier.

You can follow the event on twitter @wordcampbham

Also, if you are wondering what happens on day 2, this is the day where you get to sit down with people and actually work on things together.  We’re going to have several different levels of presentations teaching WordPress theme design from a beginner / non-coder perspective all the way up to advanced practices on Saturday.  If you want to try and put some of those new skills to the test, you can do it on Sunday with people there that can help walk you through things if you get stuck.

WordCamps are awesome events packed with very useful information(and extremely cheap compared to social media events that typically teach the same thing!), but one of the critiques is that there’s too much time mentioning what can be done and not enough time doing it, hence Sunday.

As far as a place to stay goes, last year several of us stayed at hotels near little 5 points in Birmingham.  That cost me about $125 per night plus tax.  Very safe and parking was no problem.  That said, this year, I’m going for something easier on the budget (plus I’m staying two nights).  I found a Candlewood Suites in the corporate area of Birmingham for $38 / night

If you want to find the same deal I found Put Birmingham AL in the search and look for the property at 600 Corporate Ridge Drive Birmingham, AL 35242.

Best Regards,

IWith WordCamp Birmingham so close to our meeting date we will forgo the meeting this month.

There are alreadty 11 speakers and of course Matt Mullenweg will be the keynote speaker.

This is a Saturday and Sunday event (September 26 & 27th). I'm looking for a hotel that will be close to both venues and think I can get a room discount with 10 or more rooms. If you are looking for a roommate let me know.

I urge everyone to attend this event. Saturday will be the big day with an 8am registration:
so get there early.
