Glad I got to attend one of these meetings. I look forward to learning more from you all and thank you for providing snacks!!

Based on our talk about Security and WP last night, I thought I'd share this: http://wpengine.com/2013/04/were-doing-a-series-on-wordpress-security/ - Looks to be a pretty solid resource on the topic of WordPress Security.

It was awesome hanging out with you all! I mentioned a few references last night and wanted to share some links. In regards to WordPress security, you can read Hardening WordPress in the Codex: http://codex.wordpress.org/Hardening_WordPress WP Daily also had an article go up yesterday that talks about changing the "admin" user: http://wpdaily.co/goodbye-admin-user/
We also touched on creating functionality plugins. I wrote an article on the subject a little while back, and you can read it here: http://www.searchenginepeople.com/blog/why-when-and-how-to-create-a-wordpress-functionality-plugin.html (There's nothing wrong with a little shameless self promotion, right?).
I'm looking forward to our next Meet Up! If anyone has any questions in the mean time, ask! There's no question too basic or too advanced. If you're new to the WP community you'll find out pretty soon that we tend to be a collaborative bunch. We like to exchange ideas and help each other out.
And Alex, thanks again!
Thanks for organizing this, Alex. As always, I learned a ton of stuff that I can use right away!
Awesome meetup as always, and Alex has the best hair!

Darn! Got notified too late that I was off the waiting list! Will have to make it out next time.
Hey all, last night was fun, no? I'm glad you all came out to get your learn on and hopefully share some of your knowledge, too. Community, above all, is what matters most. If we can come together, share, learn and encourage one another we'll all grow and kicketh more @$$. =)
I'll be posting my slides later on, but Suzette already posted hers here. As always, I encourage folks to join the following FB groups:OC WordPress group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/OCWordPress/ - This group is what inspired me to begin hosting my own. Great, great people; lots of brainpower waiting to be tapped.
https://www.facebook.com/groups/paswp/ - Not nearly as active, but let's fix that together!
You need to ask to join these groups. If someone asks you how you know about the group, just say Alex from Pasadena sent ya. =)
And you can always add me on FB and I can add you myself: https://www.facebook.com/ajvas
Sorry to flake at the last minute...but I have to work late tonight. I'm hoping you can post slides to the web again....or FB post the plugins you recommend...Please?

You were missed, Cindy girl! =) I will be posting my slides later on, Suzette posted hers already.
Excellent presentations once again. Thanks to Alex and Suzette.

Thank you, Steph! It's awesome you make the drive to come all the way out!
Great info and good take aways to use later
Thanks for coming, Marc. I'm glad you enjoyed. Make sure not to bogart all the Blue Moon next time! ;-)
Hi Everybody, here are my links from my presentation tonight:http://speakerdeck.com/suzettefranckhttp://suzettefranck.comhttp://suzettefranck.com/css3Let me know if any questions, here or on Twitter @mt_Suzette.
Can't make it after all and I know there's people waiting. I'm looking forward to the next one!

Looking forward to meeting you all tonight!
won't be able to make it. have to work. i'll keep trying and in the mean someone else can have my spot. thanks!
0 · April 15, 2013
Alex, this is my first WordPress meetup. Besides pen, paper, questions and curiosity what should I bring?
A 24 pack of Blue Moon is the standard entry fee for newcomers. At least that's what he charged me...
1 · April 15, 2013
....Alex already said the beer entry fee was waived since "Lucy" has that covered.
Hello all! Looking forward to our meetup tomorrow evening! Tomorrow we're going to talk about themes and how to build them.
I'll be covering the basics of Creating a theme, with a focus on setting up your environment on your computer to do so. Then Suzette Franck has offered to speak about Child Themes. And then I'll probably have some plugins to talk about as well, in addition to any general Q and A
I need/want to understand options for posting text/pictures. A way to organize the material so it reads like a book. possible?
0 · April 12, 2013
Sorry I won't be able to make it. Not sorry someone gets to join in on the fun. See you at the next one!
0 · April 8, 2013
I work just around the corner, so please if anyone cannot make it (even if you only know 10 mins before the event start), let me know! Thanks!
Just a quick reminder, folks, our meetup is next week, April 16th. Space IS limited, so if you're on the waiting list, we'll see you next time. However, if you're RSVPd to come and you can't PLEASE update your status someone else can get in. Any questions can be posted here.
Thanks again. I hope you're treating your Monday like it owes you money!
Alex, ironically and due to conflicts I have as yet not attended a Word Camp. Was registered for PHX had to bow out at last moment. Look fwd to the OC. Would be good to attend an advanced WP developers course as well - seeking.
0 · March 28, 2013
Stephanie, I would recommend joining the oc WordPress meet up as they have a general user meet up like us but also a developer focused one as well.
2 · March 28, 2013
If you want super advanced developer, Advanced WordPress Meetup Group in San Diego is super duper technical.
1 · March 28, 2013
Just a note, folks. If you've never been to a WordCamp, you're missing out. The next on in So Cal is in June: http://2013.oc.wordcamp.org/ - Yours truly has submitted to speak at the event. So come on down!!! If I'm lucky you get to see me and my nice hair talk. Mark the date and keep checking back for when the tickets go on sale.
Sorry, I became confused. I will put Tuesday, April 16th at Hastings Branch Library back on my calendar. I'll be there.Ron Walcott

In answer to your questions about topics, Alex. I would really like to address theme customization. But guess that really needs to start with an understanding of Parent/Child themes.
0 · March 25, 2013
Gosh, I missed yet another WordCamp. Ughh! Look forward to the next Meetup. I am up for either option.
Hello everyone! I hope you all had a great weekend! I'm back to work after attending WordCamp San Diego. What an experience!
Thoughts on things you'd like to see discussed at the next meetup? I want to cover either: Basic Theme Customization __Or__ Choosing a Parent/Child Theme, Starter Theme or Going from Scratch. I know one other topic on the table is regarding the powerful: Advanced Custom Fields overview.
I'd love to hear your thoughts.
See ya there...

If you're near Pasadena and work with WordPress, why not come on out and meet other people who are also working with one of the most popular web publishing platforms out there.
All experience levels are welcome to attend. This is a good meetup group for small business owners looking to optimize and build their online presence and freelancers who work with the popular CMS.
3,769 Movers and shakers
1,946 UX Professionals
I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
