Bootstrap + WordPress -- by the guy who wrote the book!

We've got the next WordPressSF Meetup On The Books for July 15. It should be a great one! Here's an overview, from our presenter, Jake Spurlock:

Bootstrap is an HTML/CSS and Javascript framework that makes it easier to build websites. Originally created by a pair of developers at Twitter, it has grown into the most popular projects on Github, and can be found on sites all over the Internet. Using Bootstrap, you can build responsive WordPress websites that can adapt to mobile, tablet, desktop and larger screens with ease. Jake will also be sharing plugins and themes that have been developed to harness features, like modal windows, tabbed navigation, carousels, and more for WordPress developers.

Jake Spurlock is a web developer for Maker Media and in addition to building sites like makezine.com and makerfaire.com with Bootstrap, recently published "Bootstrap, Responsive Web Development", O'Reilly Media, 2013.

Thoroughly enjoyed my first Meetup, and the topic was extremely timely... Thank you Jake! and for putting up with my questions. I'm still a little unclear how to mashup both WP and Bootstrap outside of the cool Carousel plugin, especially given how much Bootstrap relies on javascript, so any pointers to tuts on specifics would be much appreciated.

One note on the venue, I found the acoustics to be difficult. You'd think with all the techies around someone would put some sound baffling in that room :-)

I will have to admit it was difficult at the speed geeking meet-up a month ago to hear the presenters when they were all presenting at the same time.

WordCamp is at the Mission Bay conference center, like it has been for the last few years. Only the last day, the dev day is at the Automattic hq.

Thanks everyone for coming to the meetup last night. I had a great time presenting, and as always, a great opportunity to meet new people, and learn about what others are doing with WordPress.

I put my slides up here:

Overall, a well-organized and engaging speaker. And while I appreciate the gentle introduction to Bootstrap for the group, I would have preferred to spend a lot more time on things that can't be found easily in the online documentation. I come to an event like this to get 'behind-the-scenes' information, so I was a little bit disappointed.

Thanks for the feedback Jeff. With WordPress, it's a mixed bag of people. From bloggers to developers. I tried to cover it on a high level, and then dive into a few things at the end. Thanks for coming!

I hear you, Jake - and understand there's a wide range of interests. And I think you did a really good job going from high to deep. I had wondered aloud in the other comment box (which doesn't get posted here) if there might not be a little more targeting or labeling of these presentations as to what 'level' or audience they're intended for. It might make the presenter's job easier, too. The main thing I would like to emphasize, though, is THANK YOU for putting together and presenting. My criticism was meant to be constructive and I hope it was taken as such. I deeply appreciate your generosity in sharing and the generosity of all the hosts and sponsors for these events. Not trying to be a sour-puss ;-)

Awesome. I've been using the Roots WordPress framework which is based on HTML5 and Bootstrap. Great framework and great community. Would love to meet other SF peeps using Roots.

Would it be possible to list the top five trafficked sites that employ the bootstrap framework please? I am trying to get a sense of the features it adds to a site. Thank you.

    Hi everyone,

I wanted to share with you a blog post I did on how to make a custom Twitter Bootstrap Wordpress theme from scratch:

Been using Rachel Baker's kick-ass BootstrapWP theme for a while now. I love using the Loop to dynamically sort posts into accordions for mobile. Can't wait to learn some more nifty tricks.
