Have you ever wondered how to get your own WordPress development environment where you can install any plugin, theme, or fix bugs? We'll show you how to get up and running with a local WordPress development environment, and perhaps even submit a bug fix to WordPress core.

It was great meeting everyone who attended. I now have my development environment setup and I am looking forward to the next meetup :)

Wish I could be there. Had a family emergency and went out of town

    Our first "installfest" themed meetup went great! We talked local dev env deets including workflow tips, fav IDEs (vim ftw!), and svn vs git. We had a mix of local setups ranging from MAMP to OS X's web server stack to a local nginx stack. Related links;

Regarding meetup format, we like it & we'll do more installfest/core hack meetups in the future.Things we could do better next time: have a more formal (short) walkthrough at the beginning, try to pick out some good core Trac tickets ahead of time, maybe bring a usb drive with a few things saved we think might come in handy so we can avoid local wifi for some stuff (i.e. MAMP, latest WP, XCode).

Haha I'll still be downloading xCode by the next meetup

Very fun to get introduced to WP core. Thanks for letting me look over your shoulder, Sheri.

You're welcome! I don't know how useful (or enticing!) it was, but it was definitely fun. I hope you come to more meetups and hack with us!

Matt & Matteo, No problem, and we hope to see you guys next time!

    April 17, 2013

Sorry guys, I would not be able to make it. I will get out of work very late, so I wouldn't make it on time because it's an hour drive for me!

Just to confirm, is there agreement that we're meeting at my office at 494 Maple Ave? Or does the majority prefer downtown Saratoga Library?
    Thanks

    April 10, 2013

    • Damon

Sorry for the slow reply Karen. Let's do Uncommon Grounds this time, as Library may be too civil, and thank you very much for offering your space. See you Wednesday!

If no one else has a place to offer, we can meet at my office on Maple Ave. Our conference table isn't big enough for everyone and Wifi not blazing fast. But if you don't mind laptops on laps, there's room to pull up chairs in a circle in one of our larger offices. And there is easy parking.

Another option might be meeting at Uncommon Grounds on Broadway.

    Thoughts? Preferences?

Sheri, while we have several offices, we only have 2 large enough to accommodate up to 10 people. So unfortunately we'd need to keep looking for a space that offered room to grow.

    • Sheri B.

Gotcha. I'm looking forward to meeting you on the 17th!

      April 10, 2013

  • Karen S.

Damon, you're correct. We're not downtown. We're a couple miles off of exit 15.

If others prefer to be downtown, I'm sure we can find a quiet space in the library.

    April 9, 2013

  • Damon

The library doesn't have any meeting rooms available, and I was figuring we could just find a quite spot to meet, but I'm open to suggestions if people have a better idea of where to meet?

Ugh! Another third-Wednesday WP518 meeting. And in the Saratoga area, too! Wish I could make it, but I'm already scheduled to be somewhere else. Sorry...
