SEO Swap Meet

Share your experience with SEO. If you have plugins you'd recommend, let's hear about them. If you're a skeptic about the benefits of tinkering with SEO, speak up. If you have questions, maybe we can dig up answers.

This'll be an open discussion with no formal program or presentation and no resident expert. Let's learn from one another. :)

Was making my way back to the google authorship, when I found there is a Google Plus Authorship plugin for wordpress. Question does the plugin do the same thing as verifying authorship via google authorship, or are they two different verifications?

There was a great turn out at this last meetup. It was a very informative meeting. I enjoyed learning about other people's view points concerning SEO.

    Some notes from the meeting:

    - Use a sitemap.xml file (Try Google Sitemap Generator plugin)
    - Write good content; don't depend on meta keywords
    - Use Google Webmaster Tools to check the health and optimize
    - Tie Google Analytics to Google Webmaster tools for even more optimizations. Ties things you've written to your Google account (credibility).
    - Google Authorship verification can help too (proves that the owner of a Google account wrote the content for a given site)
    - WordPress SEO plugin by Yoast
    - Google "Matt Cutts" for tips. He's one of Google's search/spam gurus.
    - marketursmallbiz.com (Russ's site -- he was with us at the meetup)

SEO is what I am working on now and it's costing me alot to have people do it for me. I want to understand it myself.

Looking forward to Tues. meeting. It will be so nice to have someone I can share wordpress with. Everything I do is new to me. And I am never sure if what I'm doing is the right thing. So many times I have to back track and do it all over again. I spend so much time redoing so many things

Heads up about "suspicious characters" in the area. It seems a while ago this was a regular bike night. The bars promoting it are gone now, but some still head down to hang out.

So likely harmless but anyone not feeling comfortable coming in alone let us know and we'll have people out front to meet you, share numbers, etc. I confess that I've had these thoughts as well walking to and from the parking lot.

Thanks for the reminder, Mike. If anybody's nervous about sketchy characters and wants to arrange to meet up closer to Gay Street where it's better lit, just email me and I'll share my number.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
