Los Cenzontles at the SF Jazz Center

The celebrated Bay Area ensemble, whose name means “The Mockingbirds,” creates a compelling contemporary sound deeply rooted in rural Mexican folk music, artfully merging electric bass and drums with traditional folkloric instruments.

Returning to SFJAZZ following their triumphant appearance with the iconic Irish band The Chieftains at Davies Symphony Hall last spring, Los Cenzontles bring an infectious energy to every performance and project, having collaborated with Taj Mahal, Jackson Browne, Ry Cooder, Linda Ronstadt and others. Founded in 1989 by guitarist Eugene Rodriguez, the group is a floating assemblage of vocalists and instrumentalists who first appeared on record as part of Papa’s Dream, the children’s album produced by Rodriguez for the seminal L.A. Chicano rock band, Los Lobos.

The band has recorded nearly 20 albums, and their newest release, Regeneration, was co-produced by Los Lobos founder David Hidalgo and features appearances by Elvin Bishop and Raul Malo. Los Cenzontles are the performing ambassadors for the San Pablo-based music academy and community space of the same name, devoted to the furthering of traditional Mexican music and art in the Bay Area.

Here's a suggestion: If early ticket buyers post their Seat Numbers to this Event page, others can try to buy tix in adjoining seats to increase chances to socialize with each other.
