Witness the New Glory after the Renaissance -SHEN YUN Symphony Orchestra

Dear world music lovers, have you heard soothing, delightful, enlightening and joyous classical Chinese music played by a grand western orchestra? This fall, the newest phenomenon in classical music is coming to concert halls across the United States.

On September 27, 2013, SHEN YUN Symphony Orchestra slated its first US tour at Kennedy Center Concert Hall, Washington DC. The stunning performance received a standing ovation that lasted over 10 minutes long. On October 5, 2013, New York audience members were able to watch in awe SHEN YUN Symphony's performance at Carnegie Hall. Again, the performance received a long standing ovation and ended with 4 encores.

Many in history have tried but failed. The task of harmonizing music from the East with music from the West is a daunting one. Because the frequencies of notes played on Chinese instruments differ from those of the West, it is nearly impossible to blend the two distinct sounds on a large scale. And Chinese musical instruments were originally designed for solo performances and are typically played on the pentatonic scale. But SHEN YUN Symphony Orchestra has achieved something no other orchestra has: the consummate union of Eastern and Western musical traditions.

Shen Yun is further unique in that its repertoire draws upon 5 millennia of history, with an array of legends, regions, and peoples from which to find inspiration, reviving themes and melodies from ancient times.

For example, Creation is based on an ancient legend that tells of heavenly beings bringing humanity its culture. The melodies are modeled loosely after court music (yayue) from the Tang dynasty (618¬–907), which is considered the zenith of China’s cultural history.

What eclipses even their top-tier musicianship and brilliant composition is a passion for reviving a lost heritage, and a devotion to positive energy. And that, indeed, is what the concertgoer will hear and feel.

“Classical Western music hasn’t surpassed its peak in almost 200 years; there have been no major breakthroughs. Today, I saw miracles brought forth by the Shen Yun Orchestra... It’s harmonious, beautiful, graceful, delicate, and unique... Shen Yun Orchestra successfully infused elements of Eastern music and the unity of nature and humanity into classical Western music. This has elevated classical Western music to a new realm with a new soul! It’s a great moment, a breakthrough in the world’s music history. A new glory after the Renaissance.”
- William Liu, Music Critic, commented at Carnegie Hall

“My overall impression is that it is beyond anything I can put into words.
It’s the most amazing, uplifting, spiritual journey into the divine through music combining traditions of East and West...Joyous—unbelievable!”
- Margaux Brooks, executive film producer

      Hi Matt,

      October 11

    • ying y.

That was my question as well. I didn't know how to fill the form so as to include one place to meet ahead of the show, I also don't know if people in this group are up for dinners, etc. Do you have some suggestions? My favorite meetup place is Peet's Coffee at 601 Van Ness Ave, but 4 blocks away, would anyone think it is too much a walk? Please let me know your brilliant ideas. Like to meet you in person,

      October 11

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
