Oakland East Bay Symphony: Notes from the Middle East
Saturday, April 20, 2013, 8pm

Oakland East Bay Symphony continues its "virtual world tour" of music from other cultures and parts of the world with a visit to the Middle East. Artists from Egypt, Israel and Palestine and other countries in this region will join us for an evening of music we hope will help inspire dialogue and understanding.

Notes from the Middle East
Saturday, April 20, 8 pm
Michael Morgan, Conductor

Our April concert continues our "virtual world tour" of music from other cultures and parts of the world with a visit to the Middle East.

We'll open the program with Egyptian composer Nader Abbassi's The Nile Bride, a tone poem based on an ancient Egyptian legend. Israeli-American conductor Daniel Alfred Wachs will lead the orchestra in its performance of The Nile Bride, as well as of Astrolatry, a work written by one of Israel's most successful composers, Avner Dorman.

Michael Morgan will lead our first performance of Grieg's Piano Concerto, featuring Israeli soloist Eliran Avni. He will also conduct Ya Way Li a work by Palestinian-American composer John Bisharat.
