What's a vote without a last minute recount? For our movie this evening, those in attendance will cast a vote for one of two choices from the worst of 2013. A description of each is given below.
Though you might not have known it, last year's Will and Jaden Smith vehicle was directed and co-written by M. Night Shyamalan. While that might have been a good thing circa 1999, Shyamalan has done more harm than good for his legacy in the years since.
This father and son's journey to planet nepotism earned six Razzie nominations including Worst Picture, Worst Actor, and Worst Director. It currently holds an 11% "rotten" rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
The Lone Ranger
It's time to saddle up for the box office dud The Lone Ranger. "Hi-Yo, Silver!"
Critical response of the 149 minute movie was mostly harsh (31% on Rotten Tomatoes); further debate ensued over whether Johnny Depp's portrayal of a Native American (with a dead bird as headgear) was ill-conceived. Was it a good idea to bring back such a long-forgotten pair of characters?
Plagued by production delays, re-shoots, and massive budget over-runs, the film was destined to make an appearance at the Razzies. Sure enough, it has now officially received five nominations for the 34th Golden Raspberry Awards (including Worst Picture, Worst Actor, and Worst Director).
This is a free event, but you must RSVP and be present by the start of the movie to attend. There will be time before the presentation to socialize, get popcorn and snacks, and settle into seats. The show will begin approximately ten minutes after the event time. The doors to the building automatically lock at night, so, please, no late arrivals!
