We'll discuss hot tips that will prepare you for high traffic and possible disaster recovery.

somewhat missing for me, I thought the plugin develop lecture didn't really contribute as far as how to actually AVOID or overcome mistakes and obstacles .

Well, you are welcomed to look at the presentation, if you don't see there any good tips on how to AVOID making mistakes, then whatever. I can only say that a clever person learns from own mistakes, and a smart one learns from others, and I am the first type.

Ofer, as a plugin developer, I think you had many great insights in the lecture. Maybe Niv has an extensive experience and may like to share it with the community in the future.

Could have been MUCH MUCH better. I personally came for the networking and for meeting ppl, but as a hardcore developer I haven't learned anything new. First session was not interesting, and the speaker simply talked about issues he had with building his own plugin. Second session (by Ido) was much better, very enjoyable (he's an amazing speaker, too), although it was more for moderate WP users and definitely not for hardcore developers. Unfortunately I wasn't present at the last session so I can't give my input on that one. In general, I'd love to see more meetups specially designed planned for *hardcore* WP developers. That means talks about how to deal with very advanced WP stuff, such as advanced caching methods, security things, scaling WP, etc. I'd even be happy to give a presentation. I have a lot of knowledge and I feel passionate about passing it to others. Hit me up for more details at [masked]. Thanks!

Just read your review of my lecture, I am sorry you have found it to be not interesting. I thought that my problems with building my plugin may be other developer problems with their plugins, but I guess I was wrong. nm

Open question for everyone: What topics would you like to get lectured on NEXT time?

    • Omri Allouche

Thanks for the great talks last night.
For next time - Wordpress Multisite - personal experience, pitfalls, and hopefully how to avoid them

I would be interested in the following topics: 1. How to design and optimize a wp site for maximum speed to users, on mobile and desktop devices. 2. What are criteria for deciding to build a responsive site or theme vs. building a dedicated site optimized for mobile.

To whom it may concern: Here's a more detailed list of L10n functions that WordPress features. I especially love the ones that run the translated string through built-in escaping functions, such as esc_attr_e() and others.

Regrading Ido's presentation about theme translation and L10n, here's a plugin that was mentioned in the session, and that I really enjoy using. Obviously, it is not as good as Poedit, but it's a decent alternative that will get your job done.

question to ofer Wald: from your Experience: best ways to make moeny from plugin developments.

    October 13

    • Ofer Wald

Great question, if you have an answer, please tell me! but really I have a few ideas but this is outside the scope of this lecture, maybe if I'll ever lecture on how to market your plugin and make money from it, but not this time...

      October 13

  • Ofer Wald

If anyone has any questions for me to ask regarding my lecture, feel free to send those questions to me in advance, and I will attempt to answer them at the end of the presentation :)

Please announce this meetup on the local (Hebrew) WP Facebook groups -- there are about 5 groups dedicated to WP, plus a few related, like website development, etc.
An event in FB would also be nice because it shows in the calendar -- and gives notifications!
If you want, I'll volunteer to do all that.
    ;o)
