WordPress E-Commerce

Let's talk about selling with WordPress: digital products, physical products, membership subscriptions, and more.

Tentative structure:

  1. Overview of general e-commerce considerations (payment gateway, taxes, shipping, digital products, recurring memberships, SSL, etc.) (Brian Richards)
  2. Short talks on specific plugins/platforms (features, pros and cons)
  3. Open discussion/Q&A

We need speakers! If you are willing to talk about a plugin/platform, please leave a comment.

Informative overview of WordPress e-commerce, from general considerations to specific plugin configuration. We covered WooCommerce, iThemes Exchange, Easy Digital Downloads, s2Member, and Event Espresso. I hope to post notes next week.

... as well as the sometimes necessary evil of good'ol Paypal. :) The premium plugin Gravity Forms makes less-than-lovely things like Paypal more useful/palatable too.

Sorry to leave your part out of my comment, Steve! I didn't look far enough down my notes. I'll definitely include Gravity Forms + PayPal when I post the notes.

To reiterate Brian's "shameless plug", WPSessions.com has its latest on E-commerce (for Owners) available, and tomorrow the session for Developers goes off, so definitely check those options out!

My wife has a two meetings tomorrow night so I won't be able to make. This one looks very interesting though!

I could spend a couple of minutes showing what Paypal Add-ons within Gravity Forms did for a client, if that sounds like an acceptable addition to the evening...

Yes, please do. There are a lot of uses for Gravity Forms plus PayPal (or other payment gateways), so that would be worth covering.

I was personally hoping someone with experience with Marketpress from WMPU.com would share some insights. I have a subscription to WMPU - but have yet to build an ecommerce site using the Marketpress plugin.

We need more speakers! Whether you're a user, designer, developer, or site owner, if you know anything about e-commerce in WordPress, you have something worth sharing. You don't need to be an expert. Please leave a comment stating which plugin/platform you'd like to talk about.

I can also talk about s2Member for memberships and Event Espresso for events, both at a beginner to intermediate level.
