The Chicago Wrestling Club is a recreational wrestling club for adults. We are chartered by USA Wrestling. We have a great core group, including coaches (former and current), former college or high school wrestlers and people from other martial arts like judo, jiu-jitsu and grappling who are looking to improve aspects in their sport.
Our workouts are basically open mat format. They are not formal classes. Most of our wrestlers are very experienced. Many grew up wrestling freestyle in eastern Europe. However, the atmosphere is very friendly and everyone is happy to show moves and techniques when asked. Occasionally we get beginners who want to learn wrestling and they are welcome to join us as long as you understand that wrestling is an intense physical sport and you should be in decent shape before attempting it.
We have guys that wrestle mostly in folk style or Greco-Roman but freestyle is probably the most popular.
Some of our members are still competing in veterans' (age group) or open events such as the US National Championships and the World Championships. We have numerous veterans national champions and veterans world medalists, including two world champions!
Feel free to ask questions by emailing me or one of the assistant organizers. Check out the calendar and come out and meet us. No need to RSVP -- most don't. We typically get between 10 and 20 wrestlers each workout. You should have a USA Wrestling membership card, but you can come to your first workout without it.
