In shocking news the International Olympic Committee announced today that wrestling would be eliminated from the Olympics, starting in 2020. This was reported on themat.com, the FILA web site and various traditional media such as AP, USA Today and the Chicago Tribune. Obviously FILA, USA Wrestling and other organizations will fight to try to reverse this decision.
This is especially surprising considering the long history of wrestling, which goes back to the original Olympic games in Greece, and the widespread worldwide popularity of the sport. There are many Olympic events with far less worldwide participation than wrestling and a number of them are just glorified shows such as synchronized diving and synchronized swimming.
If there are any grass roots efforts we can be involved with I will let you know.
