Beautiful day brought a smaller crowd of 25 and 5 newbies. Had 4 good critiques. 10 had dinner and drinks at the Marathon.

I'm so sorry, I couldn't make this meetup. I had a family emergency. Normally, I would have changed my attendance status if I had time. I hope to make the next meetup though, it sounds like it was good!

Thanks to everyone who "wrassled" with my piece. The woman who read it six times deserves the Camille Paglia award. Paglia, who teaches at the University of the Arts, said that students don't read their enemies enough. Actually, she said students don't read their "ideological adversaries" enough. I tried to fictionalize a polemic in "Art. Insanity. Asylum in Logos."
To carry an intellectual argument within a story was the creative gambit. The dare.

Thanks to everyone who commented. Thanks, especially, to everyone who gave the piece a second read. I know that it was flawed. Too many words! And I also know that it was thought provoking and tougher than the pop-journalism that I've done previously.

That was me! I left and thought "maybe I was too hard on him" but really I think that there is something really interesting in your rant and I wouldn't have put so much into critiquing it if I wasn't interested in your ideas. I'm still not sure if I am your adversary or ally though.

Thank you to the group for having me on my first attendance. I hope to be available next month with the opportunity to have read work for feedback.

I'm a filmmaker who has directed and edited mostly but write as well. I have several ideas (different dark genres) I'd love to flesh out with anyone interested in the same style of varied dark story - think Calvaire, Funny Games, Happiness, Little Children, Take Shelter, Thelma & Louise, Aftermath, Cutting Moments.

Maybe I'll actually move one step closer to completing one of my stories if I attend.

I'm in the process of self publishing a book, and look forward to connecting with anyone who has had experience in this area.

I have a story to submit. How do I submit? Where do I find stories that other members have submitted?

    April 28, 2013

    • Joe R.

As for submission you have to go to at least one meeting. Then you can email submission.

Fair enough. Thanks for your help!

Will somebody please submit a sweet and good-natured piece of writing to complement, "Art. Insanity. Asylum in Logos." Maybe a story about a boy and his dog. I get blood-shot eyes reading my own writing and understand the need for a tonic. Doesn't anybody have a light-hearted piece of writing to submit for review this coming Saturday?

Hope I will be able to join you this time. Can't we meet any earlier?? Maybe twelve?
