Also discussed: did we have a preference for movie coverage or [the] original book? Harper Lee's To Kill a Mockingbird mentioned as being good in both versions.

My picks for movies better than the books: Fight Club, Shawshank Redemption, The Shining, Harry Potter...

I agree with you, Charlie, about The Shining and Harry Potter. I haven't seen the others or read them to decide between the movie and the book.

I've read all of those books, too. You're right. They were all better than the movies.

I have read the Shawshank Redemption (probably 15 years ago or so) and I remembered liking it! I also liked the movie and I thought they were equally good.

There were about 30 people with 6 new people, we discussed books that we loved, I talked about children's book writing briefly. 4 good critiques, and went to the Marathon afterwards. Had a run in with the Liberty management about using our space, but Doug is taking care of that.

Aren't congratulations due for your children's book contract?
0 · June 8, 2014
Not a contract yet to sell it, but an interested agent represent it, one step at a time. But thanks, it's the first important step to get published.
Steve, thank you for bringing the copies from the conference you attended. It was generous that you copied a bunch of your notes for people. Very useful.

My pleasure, I hope it helps, if there are any questions about them, can't read my writing, just ask.
Congratulations on interesting an agent then ;-) . Hope you progress to published!

Cool. What's your blog topic(s)?
The meetup was great. Good people gave good advice.
VERY HELPFUL critique. Thanks so much to everyone who gave feedback and everyone who ready submission.
If anyone has experience with Duotrope, please let me know at the meeting on Saturday. I'm only interested in paying venues for fiction and personal essays, and Duotrope seems to be the best resource for finding leads. I already know that it costs 50.00 a year. But is it possible to make a few hundred bucks, while using the site?
