I write when the spirit moves me, and the spirit moves me every day. ~William Faulkner
John Gardner's On Becoming A Novelist
Fiction, poetry and screenplays
Everything...Garcia Marquez, Rushdie, Auster, Pynchon, Hemingway, Lahiri, Dostoevsky (of course!), and too many other novelists to list here. I read a good amount of poetry too! Rilke is one of my all-time favorites along W.S. Merwin and Galway Kinnell. Lately, I've read Louise Gluck, Tracy K. Smith, Jane Hirschfield, Stephen Dobyns, Jorie Graham and a host of others. My guilty pleasure, my mind candy when I need a break, is horror fiction (McCammon, Straub, King, Clegg, Rickman, and others).
My wife once asked me to choose between her and writing. That was over 15 years ago. I am still writing. Don't know what became of the wife... Recently, I completed my MFA in Creative Writing (my concentration was poetry).
I am writer who lives in Havertown, PA.
This group is thorough in their critiques and given everyone's diverse backgrounds I am sure that all members, including me, will benefit from sharing their creative work with PWMG. Thanks for making me feel so welcome!!
