What is your favorite writing saying?

Nonfiction is the compilation of well-researched and interestingly presented facts. Fiction is the presentation of unexplored truths in language that touches the soul of the reader.

What is your favorite book on writing?

Sol Stein: On Writing

What do you write?

Now: short stories, a mystery novel in progress, poetry. Unlike my writing in nonfiction, I've had little success in attaining publication.

What do you read?

Escapist, genre novels, classic literature, professional works in my field and works on the writing process. I used to read biographies but too many of them lack verisimilitude.

Tell me something else about yourself, please?

I am a psychotherapist whose experiences led to the publication of two nonfiction works; one was a textbook on addictions praxis and the other was a self-help book for abused women. I'm now attempting to write fiction.

I joined this meetup because I am looking for a group with whom I can share writing and critiquing of fiction and nonfiction works. My career as a psychotherapist has given me grist for nonfiction and the basis for characters for fiction.

What Milton is saying about this Meetup Group

This is an excellent group for the serious newcomer who is in search of initial publicaiton becasue of the skills of some of the members. It is also highly appropriate for writers who have already been published and want a critical and informed eye viewing their work. Having been a member of other groups, one kind of writer I did not see was the crazed writer who had no skill but wanted to be published for the fame and fortune -- of which I can assure all there will be none unless you sell a million books. This is for the realistic writer who wants to get his or her work out there and build upon a first success and is willing to take the path almost every writer goes through -- start with small successes.
